I enjoy getting advice from Vice as much as the next guy, but I'll agree with one thing: "Depending who you are, and if you’re crossing certain borders (even the US one), the answer is probably yes." Clean devices at the border, install what you need after.

And of course, wipe/dispose before you cross again. We live in a day where border security can seize your phone on a whim, and you can't do anything about it. Being able to hand them a blank phone with a smug grin is the best approach.

Be careful if you use a”burner phone” at airport Security it may get you some attention if you carry an”empty” phone. I wouldnt bring a burner phone personally.but i would make sure to keep the one i carry having a proper setup to minimmize risk of compromise at conference.

I have burners. I have several in fact. Some have not even been turned on. Just waiting for the right time. The main reason I would use a burner at a conference is to stop someone theef'ing my main phone.
