Turkey joined the alliance in February 1952. The earliest reference ive found to the US-Turkish "honeymoon" being over came from a US diplomat in October of that year.

When the Cold War ended many analysts predicted the US-Turkish alliance would too. They looked a little silly in the 90s. Now it seems clear that the cement was gone, but it took the shocks of the last decade to actually bring the edifice down.

Equal with who? In 1952 their army was at circus level not participating in WW2 Never got any better than close to border operations.

yeah turkey had a circus level army at ww2. but the germans didn’t dare to attack even though it would have given them direct access to much needed azeri oil. greece got invaded in 2 weeks btw. that means greece’s army was school book fair level?
