Mainstreaming nerd culture was such a mistake. There's a prevailing narrative that we nerds, as a culture, have effectively BECOME the very bullies who used to torment us for being into comic books and Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings and such.

The fact that geekdom has been absolutely PLAGUED with toxic assholes in the last decade or so, to the point where nerdiness and toxicity are damn near interchangeable...I wonder how much of that is directly the fault of geek culture going mainstream.
