    If confirmed, yet another sign of the years-long effort to depoliticize Egyptian society and to tightly limit all forms of political expression, even where the content is not outwardly opposed to the regime.

    Reports that the admin of the main pro-Mubarak Facebook page was arrested. Aided by the sharp drop in El Sisi’s popularity and Mubarak era nostalgia, the page has a big number of supporters. The paranoia of the regime is gigantic.

    Right. And, also, it’s totally insane.

    So, it’s easy to mock or shake our heads at this. But making Jared and increasingly Ivanka not only nebulous senior advisers but also shadow Secretaries of State is a major issue for a host of reasons, and there should be more congressional oversight on this.

    FIFA is an awful corrupt organization. The World Cup in Qatar is an embarrassment. And the idea of cancelling the men’s World Cup, as suggested here, is a stunt and not a serious idea.

    After this World Cup, has a simple suggestion: Cancel Qatar. Pay the women.

    Some of the reactions to Egypt’s defeat are simply absurd. And the blame being cast on Salah is just silly. Undoubtedly a very bad loss, but outside of a few players, this is a very average team.

    The reordering of the Court is a disaster that will be with us for decades.

    Meanwhile there are 4 votes on the Supreme Court, including Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, in support of allowing the U.S. government to blatantly lie in pursuit of what we now know was a conscious bid to augment white political power.

    It’s very reassuring since Iran will apparently have absolutely no say in the matter.
