Yikes. To be clear mixed feelings about my involvement...not mixed reviews. @Karim_Amer33 & @JehaneNoujaim have worked so hard to get this to the screen & I'm VERY happy to see @profcarroll's story finally get attention it deserves (with @RaviNa1k's help)https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-facebook-cambridge-analytica-documentary-trailer-great-hack-2019-7?r=US&IR=T?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=topbar&utm_term=desktop&referrer=twitter …

A "weapon of war" used against a civilian population to bring conservatives to power. TAA (Target Audience Analysis) - "Identify Target Audience attitudes, vulnerabilities and susceptibilities" - deployed by SCL Group in the UK.

A Conservative Chimera born out of militarized voter targeting and profiling. Used to increase hatred and fear of migrants during democratic election campaigns and the EU referendum.
#Brexit and#Trump are one and the same phenomenon. https://mobile.twitter.com/SbyBT/status/1085300573354758146 … End of conversation

And this is why it irks when people say campaigns have no effect - "I never saw those ads" or "It didn't change my mind". That was never the point, they target those that they can influence. Brexit result was 1 person in a room of 50. All the focus was on swinging that one vote

+ why would vote leave spend £2.7m on untrue ads if they were not going to work ?pic.twitter.com/vkS4GyG4Jp

Explaining all this stuff to friends/relatives all the time is really difficult! “Go and watch
#TheGreatHack on NetFlix” will be so much easier! Thank you! -
Only if they have Netflix, not everyone does we don't nor do anyone we know. Needs to be mainstream.

I just give them my sign-in details

Many of us older techies saw this coming. I minimise my data trace and have been avoiding all adverts like a plague for decades. Your dedication is a guiding light to us all. Thank you. FYI designed Internet Layer antidote to this misuse of tech.

It's not the government we should be worried about spying on us and collecting on its own people, it's big companies we should be worried about. What rights do we have if we "read terms and conditions" by checking a box. We build glass houses then wonder why people can see us.
-
I totally agree with you... and not just big companies. Many should be treated as toxic to humanity - like cigarettes with a health warning. A variant will eventually happen, not just from the top-down but also from the bottom up, if we are to survive as a species.

I've yet to find someone who can explain how my 73 yr old neighbour was manipulated by Russia, Cambridge Analytica and Aaron Banks into voting for Brexit. She doesn't do social media or get a newspaper. She watches BBC News, gardens and knits dolls.

Does she read the Mail, Telegraph, Express or Sun? Does she listen to John Humphreys? Does she watch BBCQT? If the answer to any of these is "yes" she has been lied to on an industrial scale for 25 years.https://twitter.com/mac_puck/status/1060861294537072640 …

Was she already a 'Leaver', Ali ? Because if she was, this is all irrelevant. All these 'dirty tricks' and illegal overspending were only intended to persuade enough of the so-called 'Scared Leavers' to vote for brexit, - which they succeeded in doing by a margin of 1.9% ...

I've answered this utter nonsense a thousand times, it's given me RSI! So here...https://twitter.com/DIGADA1/status/1149385533694578689?s=20 …

Your reply is irrelevant to what I said.

Ali seems to know absolutely everything about her neighbour as in, every little thing... That’s just weird! I’m best mate with mine and still have a private life. I just hope I never get such a scrutinising nosy neighbour.
-
Maybe she just told him she voted Brexit to shut him up so she could get indoors.
