    BREAKING: Kismayo attackers visited the hotel 2 days prior to attack according to a security source. Attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who was driving a “Surf” car, and 3 suicide infantry; operation likely planned for 2 months; attackers were identified, per source.

    KISMAYO ATTACK UPDATE: Officials in the Somali coastal town of Kismayo say security forces have ended a night-long siege by at Asasey hotel. Reports from the city suggest nearly 20 ppl killed, with several others injured. The photo below was published by a local Radio.

    : 13 hours after the attack on Asasey started, sustained gunfire could still be heard from inside the hotel. Security forces have been trying to end a night-long siege. Local media reports say nearly 12 people dead. Security operation still ongoing.

    Waking up to global outpouring of grief & condolence messages. A clear indication that truly Hodan Nalayeh inspired many. My heart is heavy. Our lives are short & in our graves, we will be in need of those who pray for us. To Allah we belong & to him surely we shall return.

    I am shattered. What a beautiful soul. Hodan was inspirational. Every tweet or social media post she sent out portrayed positivity and brighter side of a country she loved. Her energy and dedication was truly unmatche…

    As Kismayo Hotel siege continues...My next door, a family is in distress, their dad was among those inside the hotel when the attack started. They are making many calls to Kismayo...another lady speaks of her uncle who's among the victims.
