    is a treaty ally, but not a partner. Ankara has not been helpful when it comes to US foreign policy priorities. Turkish officials believe the US hasnt been helpful to them. Each believe the other has been damaging to their interests. That said, the sun will rise tomorrow.

    I have been acting as an outside witness for Canadian and US asylum cases of people fleeing Turkey for about 10 years. I used to get 2 or 3 requests a year; I now get that many requests in a month. Most are educated. Many are young. The brain drain is palpable.
