They allegedly confessed to recruiting for ISIS, running a small publishing house, operating schools (‘Minik Kalpler Okulları’), and looking after families of slain ISIS fighters.

I wonder if they are connected to Abdulkadir Polat, the editor of pro-ISIS Takva Haber website. This group on trial now supposedly called itself the ‘Takva Cemaati.’ Polat lived in Kocaeli.

Kocaeli is also were police arrested a number of ISIS members planning an attack on Kilicdaroglu’s Justice March in the summer of 2017.

And, in a fun twist, a Kocaeli court in April did try and sentence Abdulkadir Polat on ISIS charges… But only for 3 years and 1 1/2 months.http://www.ozgurkocaeli.com.tr/deas-sanigi-camiye-giderim-oy-kullanirim-375420h.htm …

Polat allegedly refuted that he had pro-ISIS sympathies, saying that ISIS even put out a death warrant for him. Despite refuting the charge of ISIS membership, Polat qualified for a reduced sentence under the ‘active remorse’ clause. Perhaps he confessed to other charges.

All other 14 persons in the Polat trial were acquitted (and had been released by the court pending trail)

There are phone records that have surfaced in other ISIS cases showing Polat helping people get to Syria. He also wrote a lot of news stories like this one (link still active!), praising a slain ISIS fighter:https://www.islahhaber.net/44672--36320.html …

Here’s a NYT article about his media outlet and its belated closure by authorities in 2015:https://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/26/world/europe/court-blocks-jihadist-website-used-to-recruit-turks-to-islamic-state.html …

This thread may be used to claim that Turkey still does nothing against ISIS. To be clear, Turkey hasn’t had a major ISIS attack since the 2016/17 new years Reina nightclub shooting. It lacks followthrough, but in the short term has really cracked down on domestic networks.

In summary though: A guy who sent people to Syria over casual phone calls with ISIS members, a guy who put out a piece on evading drones once you get to Syria, gets just over 3 years in prison. Pretty unreal.
