Turkish politicians obsessed with Arabic language shopfronts in Turkey are doing a massive disservice to millions of Turkish emigrants in Europe. How would they respond if Western politicians ripped down “our” shops?

Look on the bright side. We might finally be able to test the President’s theory that lowering interest rates leads to lower inflation*. * Inflation should drop in August due to the high base from last year. It will not be because of lower interest.

Anyway, fuck it. Today’s twitter has been nuts and to finish it off I’ve just read that the UK Ambassador to the US has basically called Trump an utter moron and that abomination of a painting will be imprinted on my nightmares tonight. Great work.

The AKP is repeatedly shooting itself in the face, the CB and SETA debacles have flummoxed everyone, the opposition is galvanised. Don’t do this. This is baaaaaad. Aesthetically, politically, symbolically, this makes my eyes and my soul bleed.

Look, I know it’s an egregious abrogation of democratic principles and yet another national embarrassment but this whole report is also incredibly funny. Like laugh out loud in a kind of guilt-inducing way...

Trying to imagine the pitching process. “Any ideas people?” “Piece on the interest lobby?” “Nah, over done.” “Exposé on İmamoğlu?” “Too soon.” “200 page report on the retweeting habits of international journos? “Yes! That is perfect and not at all weird. Ayrans all round!”

I find it fascinating how the AKP and its allies have gone into hyperdrive shredding their own international and domestic credibility. The opposition couldn’t be so damaging to the AKP if it tried.

I’m really hoping that creepy, journalist-stalking SETA report hasn’t been translated into English. Just too embarrassing... *I’m literally shaking my head with my face in my palm*

These counterintuitive moves always happen when markets are closed. It’s almost as if they think Monday will never come.

Adviser: “Sir, I have good news. Turkish lira is much stronger and the markets have positive sentiment for the first time in years.” President: “Sack the Governor of the Central Bank.” ???????

Firework seems like the wrong word. Fireplay would have been better - I’m 37 and this is still fun.

This is Switzerland. We’re not as boring as you think... Ski in the winter, get drunk after. Jump in the lake in summer, get drunk after. I think the Swiss worked out life’s secret code.

So let me clear: sexual preference is not a choice. It can’t be encouraged or promoted through acceptance of gay culture. These beliefs have been soundly defeated by science and society over the last 50 years. Can we move on please because this is embarrassing?

Modern Turkish politics, like much of the world, has embraced this fast-consumption hate-hour (yes, Orwell foresaw it). But these coordinated attacks on identities that stand outside of the “natural” majority is frightening. We really need to be louder in condemnation.

A lot of AKP and conservative personalities have been laying into homosexuality over the last few days. We are used to diverting tactics when they are in political trouble but I really hate it when they pick on defenseless minorities. It breeds hate that lasts.
