    To frame this another way, Erdogan may well be more "anti-Western" in a cultural sense than say, Bulent Ecevit. But I think you'd be hard-pressed to demonstrate that Ecevit was any less distrustful of Western - and especially American - intentions.

    I think Ragip Bey has framed this better than most. Turkey's national discourse has generally been negative to foreign powers. The AKP has fed off this, channeled this, and used this, but it is not new or simply "a product of Erdogan"
