Reports say one Syrian was detained following the harrassment allegation. Police also made some arrests from the group who attacked the Syrian buildings. It is really frightening that slightest allegations could trigger mass violent mobs. Economic crisis is taking its toll

I find this extremely alarming. I’ve resided in Istanbul for the past 5 yrs and never seen anything of this scale. I hope this doesn’t usher in an era of racial and ethnic strife under the new “Belediye” chief
Out of curiosity, why do you believe it is an effect of the new mayor (who ran an inclusive campaign thanking all ethnicities) rather than an effect of overall cultural apprehension? After all, it was Soylu and not Imamoglu that promised to deport more Syrians from Istanbul.
I merely expressed my hopes that it is not so. But a leopard doesn’t change its spots and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. CHP is a nationalistic party whose candidates ran on racism against Syrians in different parts of the country and immediately declared measures...

While some CHP mayors candidates did, if we are talking about the Hatay measures, most did not. But more importantly, Turkish political parties have showed time and time again that they are not monoliths or unchanging. AKP, for example, has switched sides on nearly every question
From bragging about being pro-Kurdish and pro-Syrian to embracing nationalist politics and partners and pushing a narrative of repatriating Syrians as soon as possible. My point here being, no one is looking out for Syrians at the moment, but perhaps Imamoglu isn't the worst.

When one abandon their original religion teaching and follows the strange democracy. Turks and syrians are neighbours and brothers in religion. Democracy does not fend for that Quran and sunnah does.
