5- Tunisia isn’t a heavyweight in Arab/Islamic scene but any and all democratic success in Muslim/Arab majority countries is perceived as existential danger by Abu Dhabi-led counter-democracy camp May Tunisian democracy survive pirat sheikhs, their money and their evil.

4- Tunisians should be proud that their democratically elected president dies a normal death and not ousted in a coup or in prison cells. If and only if Egyptian ‘secular’ opposition had the same wisdom & concern for public good Tunisian ‘Islamists’ have!

3- Lately, Essebsi seemed to have given in to the external pressure he was facing to reverse country’s democratic path Such pressure will only increase after his death especially that his most likely successor, his son Hafiz, seems to lack his father’s wisdom.

2- The relative success of Tunisian democracy was largely thanks to the understanding between Essebsi and Rachid al-Ghanouchi, the Tunisian Muslim Democrat leader. Ghanouchi’s Ennahdha made painful compromises to protect Tunisian democracy against the counter-revolution wave.

The infamous Tora prison has done more to the emergence of modern Muslim radicalism than all the usual suspects ‘Islamism experts’ tell you from Ibn Taimiyah to Qutb Like the Berlin wall, its eventual demolision will be of huge symbolic value
