I am lucky to love an amazing man, who is also a torture survivor of Assad's prisons. I wrote a thing about love and torture. - It took me months to write down everything I feel about this issue, so I repost this piece again

Ongoing campaign of detention and torture by Assad regime. "50 people detainees from EGhouta who had signed reconciliation agreements with the regime have been transferred to Saydnaya from intelligence branches, where they had been subjected to torture"

To anyone “uncomfortable” by the presence of Syrian refugees in you country: they wouldn’t be there had the world cared enough to stop Assad’s bloodshed so deal with that. It’s mind boggling how Assad’s crimes are never mentioned in the conversation about Syrians anywhere.

Hilarious when Turks come at you saying "you are pro-refugees because you never lived among Syrians". Oh dear, I married a Syrian, I live among Syrians, most of my friends are Syrians. So really, STFU.

so, to recap the night - on the day that istanbul voted for everything to be beautiful - the voters decided that part of that beauty is to kick Syrians - who have escaped war, torture and death - out of turkey. don’t tell me this is ‘election rhetoric’. the elections are over.

CHP acilen göç ve mültecilik meselesi üzerine uzun vadeli, hak temelli bir parti programı oluşturmalı! Bu nefretle yaşanmaz!

i hope henceforth - democracy in turkey is safeguarded, individual freedoms protected and that we won’t see a return of an islamophobic era, nor will we see a mass attack on Syrians. and most of all, that we see honest reporting from those who have done nothing but spread hate.

Kafranbel committed itself to the democratic revolution. It built a free radio station and a women's centre, amongst many other things. Result: 8 years of slaughter by Russia, Iran and Assad while the West alternated between ignoring it or blaming the victims.

Many people at the opposition think ALL Syrians vote for AKP without thinking twice. They forget Syrians paid with blood their request for freedom. Syrians know better than everyone the value of democracy.

And this is the reason that most people who have voted for the AKP still vote for them today. Many people around me, especially women, are harsh critics of the party and the government. They are aware of what’s right and what’s wrong. +

Just 6-7 years ago I, along with many others, was forced to take my headscarf off to be able to go to school. The harassment we experienced has not gone away with the lifting of the headscarf ban.

Apparently someone told the lady to take her headscarf off. This is still happening. To all of you who think Turkey has become so “Islamised” you should know that this is not new and it has not stopped.

This is an important thread on freedom of religion in Turkey. In Europe, it is so common to hear only stories about women harassed for wearing short skirts, while we completely neglect women being harassed for wearing headscarves. Thank you for highlighting this!
