So, I have been sitting on this stuff for a while because pretty much nobody knows about it. But the SDF (specifically the YPG) has now standardized the production of their own armored personnel carriers. These have been in production for a time now. A good number are built.

Throughout the war with Daesh, the YPG/SDF has been very unlucky with capturing in-tact armor and vehicles. This is because the Coalition tended to deal with Daesh armor by bombing them. And when a piece of armor gets directly hit by a bomb not much tends to survive. Example:pic.twitter.com/O8Mdr7v7vk

What the YPG is of course renowned for is their workshops. And they saw all these pieces of destroyed armor laying around and decided to piece them together into their own designs.

As you can see, these vehicles are pretty different from a BMP-1. Here is a picture of a BMP-1 to compare. Immediate differences: -only 5 road wheels, shorter hull -different turret, no recoilless rifle -More windowspic.twitter.com/9kW6bDq3Cm

These vehicles currently do not have a name. But there are already variants in armament. Some carry heavy machine guns, and a few have SPG-9s. Essentially, they work like the grom on the BMP-1, but are slower to reload. I don’t have any pictures of them.

Internally, things are also different from the BMP-1. While this is an incomplete version, as you can see, the fuel tanks aren’t in the middle of the vehicle’s rear like the BMP-1.pic.twitter.com/VeJXfmQZ6V

The finished interior is much more comfy than a BMP-1. With soldiers having padding for them to bounce against on their very bumpy ride. (This thing bucks more than a BMP-1, and if you’ve ever been in one you’ll know how they jump)pic.twitter.com/1NTl62NDEW

I’ll tell you more details about the vehicle now. -The armor is essentially the exact same thickness as a BMP-1 -The glass is bulletproof. -The vast majority of parts are scavenged from other vehicles.

All of the armor is custom made for these vehicles, and are assembled in workshops. While almost certainly lower quality steel, they can still stop all small arms rounds and HMG rounds from weapons like DShKs and KPVs.pic.twitter.com/sJFgxESkaU

Well that’s all for now! I’ve known about this for months, but wanted to sit on it for security reasons. I’m not going to answer questions about numbers, deployment, or production locations.
