In the end of this sub-thread I want to clarify that Alawites have such similarities not only Sunnis, but even with Christianity and Judaism. Also with many other old Middle Eastern faiths.

The third difference is the idea of Mahdi, in both Sunni and Shiite are believers in this. While the Shia makes it a part of their daily religious practice, and it is related to everything they do or think religiously, The Alawites, like Sunnis deal with it in a more general way.

… So again we that on this issue, Alawites follow the Sunni way or the Sunni story, and not the Shitte side, who for sure place great importance on Ashura due to the Hussien death on that day.

The second difference is Ashura, & what it represents for the Alawites. For us, it is not related to the death of Hussien, it is just a holy day as Mohamad AS said. Alawites don’t commemorate Hussien in Ashura or do anything related to it. by, some, like Sunnis, would fast ...

… However, in our faith, all prayer ways are acceptable, so I’m talking about the “most popular way of praying” This would by the Sunni Shafi’I way.

The first big different is prayer, a major part of Alawites when they pray, they follow the Sunni Shafi‘I way, not the Jafari way. I didn’t know this at first, but when I was young, I learned the Safi’I . Later I learned that Shafi’I is one of the mainstream prayer ways here ...
