    IMHO this captures what happened in mayoral elex rerun: HDP voters & supporters of it‘s jailed leader Selahattin Demirtas turned out in droves & voted for Ekrem Imamoglu despite a letter of jailed head Abdullah Öcalan calling on the to remain „neutral“.

    The whole family of this man was abducted by -terrorists. Only one of his children escaped. Today she was celebrating her 2nd birthday with her friends because she escaped on the 22nd of June 2018. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎉🎂🎁

    Kurds never experienced the “democracy” Turkey built since 1950. On the contrary (oppression). The real litmus test for Turkish democracy is not how it treats its Turkish citizens, but how it treats Kurds and other non-Turks. And the Istanbul election has not changed this fact.

    We all know that it takes a long time to build a democracy. Turkey has had free and fair elections since 1950. Opposition landslide in Istanbul shows is that not only democracy in Turkey is resilient but also, and more importantly, that it takes a long time to kill a democracy

    repeat elections doesn’t mean a weaker Erdogan. Next election is 2023, the dictator controls all major institutions in the country, sure it’s a symbolic upset but nothing more. Turkey is no democracy, must not forget the southeast & shouldn’t be disposable.

    It's interesting how "secular" is associated w oppression of religious expression & rights in Turkey. While I associate secularism w inclusivity, equality & protection of every religion (and non-religion). I guess Rojava vs Kemalism represent opposite notions of secularism.

    Imamoglu fought a campaign of inclusivity. It was not a 100% secular campaign. The new campaign starts, it has to start with wealth generation, less reliance on words more on action.…

    "Islamists are Middle East’s only Democrats" I think all the HDP politicians in jail agree. When Turkey's "secularists" become as weak as the kurds, they'll join the same jail cells. It's no challenge to make ur propaganda make sense, if u ignore 90% of reality.

    An entire army of expert, paid lobbyists, academicians & above all policymakers have been arguing against democratisation in Middle East because ‘Islamists will take over & then kill it’…

    "Saving our democracy" I hope Erdogan stays in power as long as ppl pretend Turkey ever was a democracy. Exposing this lie, which has been used to hide & legitimise Turkey's genocidal policies for many decades, is the best thing Erdogan did.

    A HISTORIC DAY for Turkish democracy. I will never forget the day when our people reversed their fortunes to save our democracy.

    I think I finally found a use for Instagram: to find lots of beautiful and recent pictures of Ilams amazing mountains, rivers, canyons, gorges, wildlife etc. And one can easily find pictures from very specific parts of Ilam. I should steal those images and make a thread one day.
