Welcome to Super Sunday and the Debate of the Century. It’s Ekrem İmamoğlu vs Binali Yıldırım in Turkey’s first election debate in nearly 20 years. I’ll try to live tweet as a thread but who knows where the next few hours will take us. Is that enough hype for you?

How do you say LANDSLIDE in Turkish? Her şey çok güzel OLDU!

I was wondering whether he had conceded but he has. He's wishes İmamoğlu good luck in his role and offers any help he can give. It's over people. ISTANBUL IS RED! Again...

54-45 to İmamoğlu. Yıldırım concedes. This was Tayyip Erdoğan's biggest mistake in his political life. Turks may be many things but we always stand with the victim. I am unsure that things will ever be the same again for him.

While the AA waits to deliver its election data at 19:30, two big announcements before: 19:15 - media embargo lifted by YSK 19:20 - Yıldırım to make an announcement Will he concede?

Important note. We're all blaming the AA for not delivering results but the YSK hasn't lifted the reporting embargo. That is a first. What exactly are they discussing behind closed doors? Awful behaviour.

Every Turk is cynical enough to know that right now there are a lot of phone calls being made between AA and the AKP HQ. I don't think I can reiterate this enough: they have broken the entire system and tonight the nation is telling them what they think.

Fox TV (which remember in Turkey is not a right wing cesspit of hell): "Don't worry that the data is delayed. Trust us, we're not going to be having a late night. The winner is obvious and it ain't even close."

Hahahahahaha. AA is only going to give out data from 19:30. 2 and a half hours to count a single city, single ballot election? You start announcing after 45 minutes in national elections when the AKP is winning...

We're about to move into "this is yet another historic embarrassment" territory for the AA. They're not even giving data to the media. Remember, due to previous media purges, they are the only supposed authority on election nights.

One thing we all need to be wary of: the AA is not releasing data so we are only getting it from CHP and Anka. We have no idea from which districts they are pulling their data. Not to pour cold water on anything but let's be careful.

If the results are as astonishing as the early unofficial counts show, there is a big question that we need to ask: why were the district elections also not reheld? We all know the answer to that.

When AKP is winning, Anadolu Ajansı can't get vote counts out fast enough. Still nothing tonight. Disgraceful.

All the unofficial results look extremely good for İmamoğlu but, again, we can't get ahead of ourselves. The YSK really should lift the media embargo - it's been 80 minutes and this is a one ballot, one city election.

They went to the moon with less tech than I need tonight to follow the Istanbul election.pic.twitter.com/R6KYd0Hycr

I'm not going to be sharing single ballot box swings because it's simply not indicative. When we start seeing real data, the first thing we should all look at is if there is a swing from 31 March. Later, turnout will become important too. For now, we wait.

When I was in Turkey, I was always a ballot observer so this hour would fly by. Now I'm almost tempted to start counting matches or clouds because this wait is absolutely excruciating.

While we wait, I've been trying to work out how to translate "hakkımı helal etmiyorum". Yıldırım asked the electorate to "give its blessing" to any mistakes he may have made. I don't. This election was entirely unnecessary and damaged Turkish democracy.

Eurostar having a bit of a nightmare so far. I was hoping to get a decent TV stream but these guys are amateur hour. Any suggestions for a primary feed? Don’t want it to be Fox - still furious at Conqueror Orange’s behaviour.pic.twitter.com/4BE76iPjVH

We are now in that phase of the election where hundreds of journalists have to find things to say even though there is no *actual* news. Which is basically this tweet too. I'm going to shut up for a while :)
