  2. 5- The good news is that harvest season will end this week. The harvest was excellent this year due to plenty of rain earlier. Local farmers sell the grain to the regional Kurdish administration who store it. We passed HUGE lines of trucks full of grain yesterday.

  3. 4- And this is how some people are dying now. The other day, I went to the hospital in the town of Al-Malikiya/ Derik here in northern Syria to find out that 7 people have actually died from the fires. The sight of the their families crying was heartbreaking.

  4. 3- As a result, civilians, farmers, policemen gather quickly when a field is on fire. They bring blankets and use that to try to stop the spread of the fire.

  5. 2- As the fire was raging, one fire truck arrived from Qamishli city. That was great because it could quickly extinguish the fire. However these trucks are old. They can only spray short distance in front of them &there are not many fire trucks around.

  6. 1- Although the harvest here in Northern Syria has been the best in last 10 years, there are unfortunately many crops on fire. No one knows who is behind it. Some say ISIS cells taking revenge. We passed a fire near Qamishli on Friday& took this pic.

In 2018 a Dutch woman &her 2 kids returned from the Caliphate to Holland. The woman was imprisoned. The kids were not placed with a foster family but with the grandparents. Now it turns out the grandparents are also ISIS supporters, grandpa even went to the caliphate himself.

On a separate note, if you think that journalists in warzones are like a band of brothers, you are mistaken. I rarely meet a journalist who likes another journalists.

There is always enough money in the West to drop bombs in the Middle East but no will, budget or equipments to stop a fire & save the harvest of local farmers. The fields are on fire and I havent seen yet one fire truck in North Syria.

So I went into an interview/ meeting here in Syria with a voice like this. All the honey and the hot water didn't bring my voice back yet. صوتي راح وعندي مقابلة، شو الحل؟ موقف محرج بس ما فيني اعمل شي.

Natural honey is on the way. Its impossible to find ginger here. So I'll stick to tea and honey. Also hot water and salt.

My bad luck. Yesterday, it took me around 8 hrs of waiting at the border to cross to Syria. It is very very hot here. Today I wanted to film a story but I completely lost my voice, leaving me - quite literally - speechless. 😥 Any homemade remedies u recommend?

5/ I wanted to share these pics with you because there are so many beautiful things in this region. Its sadly eclipsed by the bad news. That is understandable but sometimes unfair.

4/ While driving from Barzan to Akre, there is a stunning mountain pass with a river going right through it. It is so beautiful to see.

3/ Further north, the Shanidar cave is located. It is a pretty steep climb with a temperature of 36 degrees during the day. But it was really nice to eventually reach the cave. Very cool inside.

2/ This is a rural area which depends on farming and agriculture. Roughly 100 kms north or Erbil, cows walk along the Great Zab river which has high water levels due to the melting snow on mountains.
