I will say this, Shinji saying that this was "the first time someone said they ever liked me" is infinitely sadder.

It definitely is extremely sad, but its more about the fact of Kaworu no longer saying "i love you". Its kinda fucked up to even change it in the japanese version, its flat out censoring like why
-
I get what you meant. It's just funny how while trying to downplay the obvious romantic feelings between Shinji and Kaworu, Netflix ended up making Shinji seem like even more of a Sad Boi.

Oh right cus “like” and “love” cant mean the same thing Netflix bad now
-
No. It doesnt. Liking someone and loving someone are VERY DIFFERENT things.
-
Oh riiiiight cus context doesn’t exist and all words only have one meaning/use and Netflix is very evil now
-
Go pick a fight elsewhere, dude

this made me break out my manga. this is so freaking stupid. it's been an accepted queer romance for over 20 years for gods sakehttps://twitter.com/_AshLake_/status/1142113164319961095 …
-
I know right !!!! People can try to act like its not real or that it was never meant to be intended in a romantic way but you can NOT deny what was put in the manga
-
the manga isn't canon

how about interviews with the creator in a gay magazine? https://twitter.com/deaddboyynsfw/status/1142137331673161729?s=21 … i don’t understand where any of this entire debate is coming from. it always has been explicitly and obviously homoerotic
-
no one's saying they're not homos
-
lol follow the threads back, that is exactly what people are saying. and netflix flubbing this translation just feeds into that for no reason.
