Aside: should we be working to eliminate the word "password" here? I feel like shared "secrets", rather than ones specific to individuals, should be called something different.

Yeah. Android is full of root vulns tho. I actually wondered if it's accessible from backups too, and if not, by what mechanism it's excluded.

I have seen backups. No passwords are there. They are directly stored on Drive in encrypted form and get instantly saved with SSID when you change phones.
