Well, congratulations on such an outstanding career choice and that is so awesome about how often the other guys post updates. Unfortunately I'm not those guys, and I will post updates when I want to, not when you want me to. I've wasted far too much time and energy defending myself against bullshit attacks like this from dick heads like you and I've lost any and all desire to even try anymore. I don't have to explain myself nor my personal life to you or anyone else, and I'm not going to waste time trying anymore just to have people think they know my life better than I do and call me a liar, like I have any damned reason to lie in the first place. I can take twenty years to finish this game and there's nothing anyone can do about it but cry, so why would I even have a need to try to lie about anything? It's this stupid drama why I don't post pointless updates to say why I haven't gotten any work done in the first place. So, I say again, I will post updates when I want to and not a minute sooner, and if you don't like it you can go to hell for all I care. Now go ahead and post another cry baby post about how you think I should kiss your ass and handle my affairs up to your standards. This is the last time I will even dignify your ignorant rants with a response. Good day.

Wow. Just wow. I don't even know what to say to that post. Wait a tic. Yes, I do.

    Bullshit.

Rick, I drive a tractor trailer, big rig, 18-wheeler. My day is 14 hours long, every day of the week when I'm out on the road. I can only drive for 11 of those hours, but from 0400 to 1800, I'm on duty checking in with customers, checking out with customers, dropping trailers, picking up trailers, fueling, and several other things...besides the 11 hours I'm driving. I still find time every day to get online and surf the internet, before I call my family and let them know how I'm doing.

If you can't find five minutes a week, just five fucking minutes, to post "did nothing on the project this week, hopefully better next week," then quit saying you're going to do something on this project anymore.

I've got money in three other projects, one of which is with a Japanese developer; and all three of them post regularly. One at the end of the month, and the other two about once every week or two weeks. One of those developers posted this summer an apology for doing nothing on the game because they went on vacation. My response was along the lines of thank you for being fair to your backers to admit this, unlike another person I foolishly donated to.

As for me quitting, well, Rick, I think you would appreciate that. It appears from the extreme lack of comments from others about your lack of care for those who backed this game, I just might be the last one on here checking on your progress. If I quit, they you will be able to develop the game and not have to give a freebie to anyone as all of us backers will have quit and not cared anymore. Then, you sell it on the market for whatever price and make more money than if you gave it to all of your 246 backers. I wonder if there is anyway I can contact any of them and see if I'm right about being the only backer of this game that even checks on the progress anymore.

What do you say, Rick? Wanna share their email address with me and let me take the time you have none of, to see if they even give a damn about this game any longer?

Sorry, Jason, there hasn't been any progress, my job has been keeping me too busy to even sit down. I haven't even sat at my personal computer since shortly after my last update. Since then I've been working anywhere up to 16 hours a day, usually seven days a week, getting sent all over the globe. In fact I just got back from Newfoundland yesterday, and tomorrow I'm leaving for Ontario until sometime next week, and when I am away I am working long hours every day I am gone in stinky old fish plants, troubleshooting and/or installing commercial fish processing equipment, no time to sit down and work on things. Hell I haven't even been able to find time to go fishing but twice so far this year. My apologies that I haven't been getting much done and that I haven't been posting updates saying I still haven't gotten any work done, but I just have been busy as hell. I'm really hoping things will start to settle down soon with work, or else I may be starting to look at other companies to work for, I haven't gotten the chance to spend any time with my family this summer or anything. We tried going camping, but our first day camping my phone started ringing off the hook and I had to pack it in and fly to Peru. I know none of this is of any concern to anyone here, I am just emphasizing that I have been busy busy busy all summer. I can't post that I am quitting this project because I refuse to quit. If you choose to give up that is your own choice, but I'm not throwing in the towel. Again, just busy as hell here, man, doing the best I can but sometimes life happens.

Simple request. Easy to do, too. Just hop on and post something, any damn thing, that there is at least some progress on a regular basis.

That seems to be the problem. There is just absolutely no time for his backers, regarding this project; even after it has been completely changed from what was pitched to be in the very beginning.

Ricky Myers, please, just post that you have quit this project, so those of us that were foolish enough to even expect anything, will stop wasting rare moments of checking back here to see if you have even done anything but didn't get a notice.

  • still think he scams but well we will see 2020 if this game is finished or its all big Szenario

  • Is there a way to stop receiving updates from a Kickstarter project?

Yes, an "edit" button is highly required. (I am a big "edit" user, typing sometimes too fast).

I wish you the best, Mr Myers, and game or not, I can read in your post that you are an honorable husband and father and that despite all the ambushes, you love video games and want to make a nice one.

    Rick MyersCreator

I also hate how you cannot edit a typo in a comment on here. Correction in the first sentence of my comment. That was NOT* directed...

  • user avatar
    Rick MyersCreator

That was directed specifically at you in its entirety, Jason, and I am sorry if you took it that way and I am sorry about blowing my top, there was a lot more behind it that I refuse to acknowledge because it will only feed the trolls. I know I could pop up every week, or every month, and give another sappy crying story about how my life sucks, but I'm sick of doing that to be honest. My personal problems are nobody's fault or problem but my own and I don't like unloading them onto everyone. Plus, I don't feel like defending myself against everyone who claims I am lying about this and that and insists I used the project funds to buy a mansion in Beverly Hills and a Porsche or something. The way things have been in the past, if I would have made an "update" apologizing I didn't get any work done when my mother died last month, people would have been calling me a liar, demanding I upload a scan of her death certificate and pictures of the headstone, and I am sure someone would have emailed me wanting a picture of her dead body at the funeral. And I'm sorry, but stuff like that is hard enough on a man without adding that kind of stuff to it. Just like when my house caught fire, people were calling me a liar and wanting me to post and email photos and documentation of the damages. I'm sorry, but that is personal, not to mention it's pretty damned rude to demand that kind of stuff. And I know it's hard to believe people would stoop to that level, but I would like to remind you that I have even had people contacting me telling me I should, and I am quoting, "put your daughter in the game so we can all f$ck her" (My daughter was three at the time, btw). So I don't post so called life updates anymore because I am tired of all the BS and I am tired of being attacked over my personal life. I don't post project updates unless there is something worth posting about because then so many people just chime in complaining about how little I am getting done and demanding I show them everything from receipts for what I purchased with the funds to my personal tax records. In short, I stay silent and in the shadows because I am tired of all the negativity. And I do honestly apologize that I sometimes blow my top, it's just that every time I get pulled back into things, there is a mile long list of hate mail, complete f$ckery, and negative comments and backlash I have to deal with over everything and it never ends, and there's only so much a man can take. I am actually starting to think about using the facebook page as an update base, though. Smaller updates can be posted there, and bigger updates posted here as they come up. I would post some images just to show that I have been working on things but I am on another work trip right now in Minnesota and don't have access to my home PC.

Well, thanks for the accusations, Rick. I never said anything about you destroying your family for this game, yet you put those words into my mouth. What I want is the game to be complete and some sign that you are actually doing something with it. I see the sad stories all the time on the other projects I backed, but their stories always end with what they have done for the project and the posts are always at regular intervals. In short, their lives suck too, but they have posted that they finished another paragraph of the text for the game, or another line of code (and I'm sure there are millions of lines of code in most games). At least they are showing regular progress and that they are willing to go forward and remembering their backers, even at the toughest of times.

You, however, wish to attack me with false accusations that I'm insisting you run from your wife and kids, lock yourself into a basement with nothing but computer software and complete the game. I've never said that. All I want is signs that you are doing some progress or just a flat out admittance that you have quit the project. Even just once a week post of seven sentences:

    Life sucks.

    Wife's sick.

    Kid's with the flu.

Typed three words in written dialog this week.

    Car's broken.

    Got fired.

    Still trudging along.

There. That is an update. It shows some form of progress, even then minimalist amount.

But, we, your backers, don't even get that from you. We get silence. And when you do come out of the woodwork, there is no sign of progress and just about how bad life has treated you.

And when we complain about the lack of progress and updates, we are attacked and accused by you of telling you to do it our way (I never gave suggestions about how to create this game) and that we demand you abandon your family.

With that shitty attitude, you can see why I'm a pissed off backer for the project. It's why I as you to do one of two things, going forward:

Put up (i.e. give regular updates, even if short simple updates of some though little work done on the project)

    or

Shut up (i.e. quit. Just quit attempting to make this game and all other games in the future and focus on where you should be focused, taking care of your family.)

You think I don't already know all of that, Jason? You think I don't kick myself in the ass ten times a day over all this BS as it is? You have no idea how heavy this whole fiasco weighs on me every damned day. I try my best to work on things, but the fact is when this project was launched I had no way of knowing my entire life would get flipped upside down and just keep spiraling downward. I had no way of knowing my wife was going to become basically a vegetable and leave me having to work two jobs and raising three kids all while taking care of her as well. I had no way of knowing my health was going to plummet as a result either. Every day, I think to myself how much I need to try to get things straightened out so I can start committing to some kind of schedule to get this game finished, sometimes things work for a week, but then things fall right back to chaos. I would gladly just refund everyone their money and throw in the towel on this whole project if I had the ability to do that, but obviously I don't have eleven thousand dollars laying around, and not because I blew it on Italian sports cars and high rise mansions, but because I spent it on software licenses, developing hardware, digital assets, everything I said I would. So my apologies, but my family is a higher priority than this game, and right now they need a lot more of my time than they did when this project launched. We could go on and on about where it all went wrong, but it doesn't matter now. So if you or any of you want to kick me while I'm down go ahead, I don't care anymore, I've heard worse over this game than any of you can come up with. Go ahead and post phishing sites and forums to try and slander me and drag my name through the mud, makes no difference at this point because my name is already mud. You talk about if this was a real job I would be fired? I've already fired myself, but it doesn't change the fact that I have one project to complete and I will do it at my own pace, I'm not going to divorce my wife and give my kids to foster care just to make your game faster. And honestly I don't care if you like it or not. Truth is you're not going to be happy with the game anyhow, no matter what I do, and you're going to think the game isn't worth all the time that went in to it, because I can't make something that looks like it was made by BioWare by myself, that is how I got in this pickle to begin with, by thinking I could do the work of an entire team in a third of the time. The game is going to have to be simple and minimalistic if I ever want it to be done. I could talk about how things are looking like they're going to get better soon, but every time I do things take another dive, so I am just going to say I am still working on it and I will post an update as soon as I have something worth posting about.

No, Rick, what's lame is that you have disappeared with no updates since May of last year, with it ending with the following:

"Once I find a style that I think is acceptable, I will post another update with some screenshots, shouldn't be very long. But I really just wanted to let everyone know that I have been back to work on things and say that you should expect some screenshots in the near future."

It appears you still haven't found a style you like and/or you never will. Pick something and complete the project. As I've said before, if this was a real job, for a real company, with real investors, you would have been fired and/or sued to get some money back.

Wow, that's pretty lame. No, it was not me, and no the forum did not get hacked either, apparently at some point in my absence the forum was taken down, and it seems someone else created a new forum in place of it and posted this to be an ass.

    "Hi, everyone, I'm back.

I'm going to come clean: I have no idea what I'm doing. When I started this project, I had next to no knowledge about game development, and after 3 years, I still don't have a clue what I'm doing. The haters were right.

Reality is, I conned you all. I got your money, and I ran.

You might think this confession means I'm going to refund it all? Wrong. I'm not.

After all this, I'm taking the money, and I'm running as far away from here as I can. In the end, I only used this money to fund my lifestyle, and almost nothing went on the game.

No, I'm not passing the project on. I own the rights to Hero/MGQ3D and I intend to keep them. The project is over. Goodbye, this time, forever."

is this a fake or is he serius xD? or did his forum got hacked? :D

Not exactly, but You can use the "Report this project to Kickstarter" button on the Campaign page as I have done. I have yet to see Kickstarter doing anything with those reports though.
