I still believe Assad will fall, despite Russia, Iran, the Sauds, the PKK, the US, the hard right, the left, and everyone else.

It's not just the US either, it's a Russo-American partnership/contest in support of oppressors. The only thing any of them care about is the resources, the people are "collateral damage". Putin's heavily backing Haftar & the new-old regime in Sudan too.

Today the Sisi regime, funded by the US, is backing the warlord Haftar in Libya, supporting the Saudi bombing campaign in Yemen, sending weapons and fuel to Assad, and encouraging the Sudanese regime to violently crush the Sudanese revolution.

in Egypt, a more savage dictatorship than ever before, the silencing of all dissenting voices, liberal and secular as much as Islamist, and a constantly worsening economy. Democracy is difficult. The first winners may well be problematic, but the alternative is always much worse.

Rather than build their own democratic alternative, 'liberals' collaborated with the Sisi regime to commit this crime. Trump and the Sauds declared the Muslim Brothers - a party which accepts democratic process - terrorists. The result of all this is vastly increased terrorism...

President Morsi was incompetent, the wrong man the for the revolutionary moment. His incompetence played into the hands of Egypt's military regime. But he was Egypt's only democratically elected leader, and his deposition, imprisonment and now murder were terrible crimes...

  7. Rory Stewart voted against letting refugee children in to Britain. Stop hailing this man as some new compassionate conservatism. If it was there, would be in his voting record.

How many Tory members still believe the Scots and Irish would return on their knees to England just as many in Moscow in 1991 thought the Ukrainians and Kazakhs would return crawling on their knees to Russia?

Because housing, land and property will be THE story of Syria's future, I've been researching it in detail for quite a while. Including the enormous scale of property demolitions described in this article. A thread:

  13. Fellow Remainers. It doesn't matter if around 60% oppose . If around 35% unite behind a Johnson led Tory party in a snap election then the Tories will win a clear majority. We face a disaster if Remain parties don't cooperate.

Protecting civilians should be at the heart of any and all policy discussions, not protecting dictatorships. Nobody doing the latter has any business pretending to be neutral or objective on this conflict.

Accepting Assad is not “realism”, it is a political choice, one that is built on the murder of a million Syrians, we will never know the true scale, given that the UN stopped counting at half a million casualties nearly 5 years ago now.

Both the left and right have seemed to forget that racism is not something that can be triangulated away, but a matter of basic political hygiene. You don't support racists. No matter how much you want to renationalise the railways or leave the EU. Have some fucking principles.
