2 years ago YouTube suspended my other YouTube account that was used for my old blog, after lots of back and forth they finally restored it, so it's not like they don't know who Bellingcat is.

I'd personally preferred to have spent the day preparing our new MH17 report and working on more pressing issues, but now I guess I get to spend my time trying to get the channel restored instead. Thanks, YouTube.

Maybe I should have posted a bunch of conspiracy theories on it, seems YouTube doesn't give a shit about those, and actively promotes them.

Did they say which guidelines you violated?
-
Just what's in the email, I don't even see a video they've previously emailed about on that account that could be the problem.

What do you think is driving these platforms to ban open source investigators? Like you mentioned, it's been happening across the board. Something to hide?
-
I think despite the timing there's different things at play, Facebook was reacting to privacy concerns, Twitter seems to be reacting from requests from the Indian government, and I've no idea what's going on with YouTube.
-
Is the Indian government going after
@elintnews and@intelcrab? Either way, it's concerning how it's taking place simultaneously on multiple platforms, even if it's for different reasons. - 2 more replies

Maybe what is needed is some democratic governments need to start regulating these massively powerful companies that run platforms where people get information. Maybe we, the users, need some basic, rights, transparency and oversight, like other major industries have?

Since Google owns YouTube and is sponsors of Bellingcat I'm sure you will be back in a few days on Youtube. And since your partnered with NATOs DFRLab who control censoring Twitter you'll get those accounts back as well. Shocked there's no 'suck my balls' comments from Higgins.pic.twitter.com/LrKMFpkZ9v

But didn't you yourself promote that other open source investigators should be banned, now you got banned yourself, seems fitting

The best solution is to use solutions that are censorship resistant as your primary source and own your own platform. By all means upload your content to YT once it's back up, but make your primary source something like peertube, dtube or even self-hosting.

Time to invest in your own servers or rent on a cloud that can be backed up locally. This whole thing of everyone being in hock to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is nonsense. It's free sure, but now you see the real cost.

Could always host on Vimeo, DailyMotion and/or Bitchute. I know a one of the chemistry channels I like, that was banned from youtube (
@ChemPlayer1 ) relocated to Bitchute. End of conversation
