انالله وانا اليه راجعون Deeply saddened with the passing of Morsi, who was democratically elected as the 5th President of Egypt. A great loss for democracy. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to his family and people of Egypt. May Allah bless his soul and grant him Jannah.

Building lasting, democratic institutions is a slow and gradual process. The Egyptian people were denied the right to see that process through, and be integral parts of it. 's death, if anything, will symbolize how the hope for democracy was stolen from the Egyptian people

Helena’s thread captures my feelings well. Morsi was fairly elected 7 years ago and as with the slaughter of his supporters at Rabaa, the muted response to this injustice from US/EU officialdom shows how they value democracy only when it’s convenient.

Maybe the biggest irony is how concerned many were that Morsi’s presidency would “Brotherhoodize the State”. No one ever said that al-Sisi’s “presidency” would “militarize the state”. And guess which one happened.

Despite all suffering, 6 years of solitary confinement, unbearable physical & psychological torture, imprisonment of his family President Morsi refused to recognise Sisi as president or give up his democratic legitimacy That is how we will remember ; a hero

It really takes a man of steel to bear this level of pain and suffering. But it takes even greater men to stay peaceful and civil depsite all this oppression, torture & injustice Kudos to Morsi & brothers. The righteous shall remember them for who they were.

This is a short video from Pres Morsi’s daughter The testimony leaves no doubt that Morsi was killed through systematic & deliberate medical negligence Morsi was forced & dragged to stand in the court even after fainting!

We mourn the death of an Arab Spring leader, the first & only democratically elected president of Egypt & a good man. We mourn with a deep awareness that it is the regional & international order which made his ousting possible. But this story doesn’t end here.

Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, was a thousand times more moderate -religiously & politically speaking- than any given right wing Western leader Those who use ‘Islamist’ as pretext to dehumanise Middle East’s largest peaceful political organisations better shut up today.
