Some background: Zebari tribe is a major tribe in Duhok, they have historically been the main rival of Barzanis, however, the rivalries died down after a political marriage between Mustafa Barzani and Masoud Barzani's mother who is the daughter of a Zebari tribal chieftain.
Harki tribe, on the other hand, are also another major tribe appeared across Duhok and Erbil provinces. Harkis were also rivals of Barzanis, many of them joined Ba'ath party because of their hatred toward Barzanis but they eventually made peace.
Although Barzanis lead the KDP, however, the party functions more like a coalition of a group of tribes and powerful families rather than a normal modern political party. Such tribes as Zebari and Harkis, among others, are one of the main pillars of KDP's strength.
They are lions to each other but coward cats to enemies of Kurdish nation.
