Exactly. It's not very reassuring when you ask around about this. Best that can be said is that Turkey is making the same mistake as everyone else (US, Israel, etc) in believing the Russians can be a quasi-partner to meet certain interests in Syria.

Despite cutting diplomatic ties with the Regime, Turkey has acted in a respectful manner in Syria and has never directly engaged the Regime militarily. Turkish backed forces have played a defensive role throughout the conflict.

But if Assad continues to target Turkish observation posts this can change quickly to the detriment of the Regime. Don't mistake Erdogan's patience for weakness.
