Yes, it's legitimate. In order to help protect FA users and FurBuy users, we now send a courtesy message to every FA user for whom a FurBuy account is linked to. This is in order to give FA users a warning in the event that someone is using their FA username against their will or permission. If you receive a message stating that a FurBuy account has been linked to your FA account and you did not create or establish that account on FurBuy, please let us know right away and we'll work through the issue with you. Thanks for your patience and support!
Note: The message you received recently is NOT prompted by user activity, it was an automated message to bring existing users up to speed with the new system. From now on, if you receive that message it will be due to user activity, though.
Was this just recently set up even for people who've had an account on Furbuy for a while? I set up an account years ago, and just got this message today, just curious.
Yes indeed. =) Since the new system is designed to send PMs to FA users at the moment a FurBuy account is linked to an FA account, we figured we should send out messages to folks who already had the link setup. Which was over 2800 of you guys, awesome. =D This was all done in cooperation with FA admins and to help protect everyone's identity and improve security between the two sites. Just for the record, you will NOT receive any other messages from FurBuy besides these account linkage messages, if you do then it's either in response to a PM to us, or not actually from us. Typically initial communications will be sent directly from the current FurBuy Community Lead, not this account. Just FYI.
This is a good idea (for the record, my account is legit). I appreciate the thought. It's good to know you're looking out for your customers' best interests. ^^

Well... at no point did I request my never used furbuy account to be linked (in whatever bizarre way) to my FA account to enable whatever seemingly non-existant feature between the two.
Well, we don't populate the FA Username field FOR you, so odds are that you did enter your FA Username at some point, possibly at the time you created your account.
btw try to fix your sytem, as I Got 3 identic private messages. or is it normal? also, how much time you keep older accounts until they get deleted? because I noticed my old "cesarin" one is gone D:
Your account on FA may have been linked by 3 accounts on FurBuy - we assumed that nobody had duplicate accounts, so we didn't check for them and consolidate messages from different accounts into one.
Also, we -never- delete accounts in our system, they are there always and forever. They do not expire or go inactive.
That's very bizarre then, you should have only gotten one. o.O Did you by chance create a new account recently and then go into the Prefs area and change some remote site usernames? The PM is sent when you create a new account with an FA username during account creation or when your FA username is set from the Prefs tab...
The message you get is automated, yes. But when we first enabled the feature, we chose to send out a mass PM wave to all existing users letting them know about the account linkage. It was somewhat baffling to people, so we made this post to clarify - just for those people who received the big wave out of the blue. Now when you get them, they are because SOMEONE just linked a FurBuy account to your FA account, and if it was done without your knowledge, you should let us know so we can investigate and take action. =)
