Hengqin: Chimelong Ocean Kingdom to open before CNY

A hotel, a circus and the Ocean Kingdom resort will reportedly be open to visitors in Hengqin before the Chinese New Year.
A representative of the Guangdong Chimelong Group announced recently that the main elements of the Chimelong Ocean Resort – the Hengqin Bay hotel, routine circus shows, as well as the Ocean Kingdom – will be ready before the lunar new year.
According to a Zhuhai local newspaper and Macau Daily News, the Hengqin Bay hotel will open on Saturday (January 18). The remaining events and facilities will be open for business before the Chinese New Year, which begins at the end of this month.
The Hengqin Bay hotel is said to contain 1888 rooms. The developer is also aiming to provide regular performances in the Circus Town.
The Chime-Long Group paid RMB36.7 million for the theme park, which originated from and is based in Guangzhou. The first phase was scheduled to open around November, when the first China International Circus Festival was held on the island. However, the opening time was postponed to January 2014.
A site tour was offered to some media representatives last week. Entertainment items such as a roller coaster, an aquarium of whales and sharks, and a firework presentation were shown to the journalists, according to the Zhuhai newspaper.
In addition, some new projects started construction last week. Two more hotels, with special features of penguin cartoons and European style buildings, will be located in Hengqin with 2000 and 700 rooms respectively.
Upon the completion of the Circus Hotel and the Penguin Hotel, plus the newly built Hengqin Bay Hotel, the Ocean Resort will have nearly 5000 rooms for guests.
Located to the north-east of the Ocean Kingdom with an area more than 10,000m2, the 5D special effect cinema is the key recreational project of Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, and will be one of the biggest 5D cinemas in Asia.
The three projects that kicked off construction require an investment of RMB5 billion. GY
