Account security

With email being optional and able to be removed, how would we recover our account if someone stole our account? (they remove the email and change the password)

If the email is removed, you can recover your account by submitting a support ticket to Windscribe here: https://windscribe.com/support/ticket

You could provide security questions that only the true account owner would know, such as:

• Account registration date, voucher codes used.

• Payment dates.

• Payment methods.

• Previously submitted logs and tickets, etc.

How did they steal your account in the first place? They can't change your password without knowing your existing password. And it's also required to change the email on file. If they know your current password then that's on you for not keeping it safe.

It's your responsibility to keep your password secure. No one else should know it and it certainly shouldn't be easily guessable. We can't really prevent someone else from finding your password if it's written on a sticky note or in a plain text file or something else of that nature.

On top of that, we aren't a financial institution or anything so there's pretty much no important info on your account that someone would want. The only reason someone else would want your account is to get free Pro or something but again, they can't fully steal the account unless they somehow found your password.

I haven't lost it but I use windscribe on a work computer, I wanted to know how I could recover it if there were say, a keylogger of a computer I use.

I highly doubt that the person who installed the keylogger would be focused on your Windscribe account.

But yes, in the very unlikely case that somebody not only keylogged your computer but they did it for the purpose of stealing your Windscribe account, you're kinda out of luck at that point. They can then remove your recovery email, change your password and you can't recover this account on your own.

You would then need to contact our Support to further verify your account ownership and we'd take it from there to see how we could help.
