    I think the latter two are more likely - no recent insurgent activity in the area, unlike fires last year in July, further north on Jebel Hawar

    Unclear what actually caused the fire, I've seen it blamed on Turkish security measures, rebels (Liwa Samarkand) burning wood in order to create charcoal to sell, or by accidentally by people living nearby in tents (presumably IDPs).

    Reality is that these people are not arguing in good faith. Nothing can be done to placate them. The weight of evidence is overwhelming, the consensus among independent experts and bodies rock solid - this "scepticism" is reminiscent of climate change denial or 9/11 trutherism.
