If the math works out and it makes money for Turkey, lessens Bosphorus traffic (ships wait 3-4 days at times), and prevents an imminent environmental catastrophe, why are you against it exactly?https://twitter.com/canokar/status/1041380133549035525 …

Officially: too much traffic on Bosphorus and apparently dangerous for residents to have so much thoroughfare. Really: Bosphorus is free (Montreux) and this would be chargeable for speed. And imagine the real estate rentierism possibilities.

      1) With what money? 2) Changes in salinity which leads to an anoxic Marmara and the city stinking of rotten eggs every Lodos 3) With whose money? 4) Why take the money route when the Bosphorus has to be free? If it’s cheaper than 4 days wait, it’s not real money. 5) Money?

I hear echoes of “don’t build a new airport” and “don’t build another bridge” despite traffic at ist and the crossings at capacity. “Don’t build a canal because the math wont work.” “What if it does?” “Just dont” isn’t convincing.

The airport is in the wrong place (Black Sea landings will be a nightmare and fog is already a massive problem) but no-one that I know is saying there shouldn’t have been one. Similarly, new bridges are great as long as a zillion crossings aren’t guaranteed in FX for 25 years.

The Gezi Park protests didn’t get much press in Switzerland?

How is Gezi in anyway linked to what I just wrote? Do you fancy landing over the Black Sea? Have you been to the site yet because everyone who has talks about the fog. Are you suggesting that the bridges are profitable? Seriously, what is your argument here?

I literally drive by there every day, haven't been in fog that you describe, but then again you live in Switzerland. Your words are straight out of the Gezi playbook. Let me refresh your memory (these are the words you've never heard before btw):https://youtu.be/VPTekxJoLUw?t=46s …

It was literally foggy yesterday. And for the press visit this year. Also, what on earth is a Gezi playbook? You talk about Switzerland but you’re in the US and I lived there for the previous 5 years. Anyway, build away my friend. It’s destroyed the country but you keep doing it.

The Gezi playbook is the 5 second video I sent you. Outrageous demands from people with no public support. I'm in Istanbul, have been for nearly a decade. What's destroyed the country is 0 credible opposition and no feasible alternative that have destroyed the country.

The term gezi playbook is from AKP playbook. If all you have a hammer, you see everything as a nail. Try thinking for a second why planes are not able to land, and then remember what the warnings were about this location even before the construction started. Coincidence, right?
