Counterpoint: your definition of a "satisfying character arc" is woefully limited, and your undying loyalty to your own preconceptions is making your viewing experience far worse than it has to be. You don't like having your expectations subverted? Have fewer expectations.https://twitter.com/themandowolf/status/1125932277207318529 …

Subverting expectations is like any other gimmick. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I personally am on Team It Works more often than not, but yeah, some twists go beyond the pale. I don't watch GoT, so if you insist it has done so, I have no counterargument. Carry on.

Justifying my love of the Last Jedi in the face of my hatred of the last episodes of game of thrones... subverting expectations is good if it’s in the face of a complacent audience who thinks they know everything. Not shock value for shock value’s sake
-
The difference is all the twists in TLJ make sense in context of the character’s lives. They don’t take someone who’s been the most compassionate leader in the show and make her crazy in two episodes because duck nuance
-
Nope. You gotta look deeper. You can't defend TLJ and now shit on GoT. They have been foreshadowing Dany going this way since season 1. Jaime was always trying his hardest to become something he wasn't in the end, and gave up trying to be who he is. Nuance was there, you ignored
-
If you two are gonna debate this, please untag me.
-
You do know you can untag/mute the conversation yourself, right?
-
And you can untag people. It isn't hard.
-
Just saying you spent about 34x the time to make two tweets now asking to untag, when you couldve hit two buttons and not tried to make yourself seem so important that the onus is on us to do it for yoh. Alas, I'll untag.
-
Me muting the conversation would mute EVERY response to my initial tweet and I'd rather not do that. I just wanna mute YOUR debate on the finer points of this shit, and the most effective way to get that done is if YOU untag me.

It’s sad that you can’t tell if they’re complaining about Last Jedi even though that movie came out two years ago and there’s still bitching about it. God damn it’s getting old

It's okay, Tony. It's hard to tell the difference between fan outrages anymore.

Sometimes both can be terrible! Or good! Remember when the director of THE DEVIL INSIDE defended ending the movie with no resolution and a link to a website because “it defies expectations”?

One of these days when I actually have a ton of free time, I’ll binge watch GoT. One of these days.

Yeah, I was about to say I was shocked you were taking this stance with GoT. Theres a difference between expectations the fans built up for themselves and expectations people have due to being natural progression of a story arc

I do watch Game of Thrones, and your comment is still correct.

The OP you're replying to is a TLJ hater (I've seen them on Tumblr for ages) and clearly lumps it in with GoT in their complaining, so you're not far off there.
