Okay...I did NOT realize this was in reference to Game Of Thrones. I honestly thought it was another Last Jedi dig. I am way out of my lane here.
Subverting expectations is like any other gimmick. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I personally am on Team It Works more often than not, but yeah, some twists go beyond the pale. I don't watch GoT, so if you insist it has done so, I have no counterargument. Carry on.
Justifying my love of the Last Jedi in the face of my hatred of the last episodes of game of thrones... subverting expectations is good if it’s in the face of a complacent audience who thinks they know everything. Not shock value for shock value’s sake
The difference is all the twists in TLJ make sense in context of the character’s lives. They don’t take someone who’s been the most compassionate leader in the show and make her crazy in two episodes because duck nuance
Nope. You gotta look deeper. You can't defend TLJ and now shit on GoT. They have been foreshadowing Dany going this way since season 1. Jaime was always trying his hardest to become something he wasn't in the end, and gave up trying to be who he is. Nuance was there, you ignored

Yeah, I was about to say I was shocked you were taking this stance with GoT. Theres a difference between expectations the fans built up for themselves and expectations people have due to being natural progression of a story arc
