I am running as a write-in candidate for TICA ASIA REGIONAL DIRECTOR (in the 2013 Election). Write-in Candidate is time honored democratic tradition and an accepted procedure in TICA (The International Cat Association). I would like to explain my policy and candidacy openly and publicly. If you agree and support my policies expressed here, please write-in my name, Motoko Oizumi, on the ballot. If you are voting TDS online, please write-in my name on allocated space for "Write-in". *What is a Write-in? - It is a legitimate and accepted method to vote in TICA. A write-in vote or a write-in campaign is a system mainly seen in the US. A write-in candidate or a write-in vote is; a candidate in an election whose name does not appear on the ballot, but for whom voters may vote nonetheless by writing in the person's name. In US history, candidates such as John F. Kennedy, used the write-in vote to win the Democratic Pennsylvania presidential primary. Then went on to become President of the United States. In TICA's history, the founder of TICA, Ms. Georgia Morgan, once ran as a write-in candidate for TICA President and she won. Also, please refer TICA By-Laws 114.3 below; 114.3 Election. The election ballot shall contain a list of candidates. The ballot for of President, Vice President and Regional Directors shall also contain write-in votes. The provisions of ARTICLE THIRTEEN shall apply to of officers. This was one of my proudest and honorable achievements. With the cooperation and help of Japanese cat clubs, fellow TICA members, I am grateful that I was able to host this meeting and this TICA show in my term as ASIA REGIONAL DIRECTOR. 2013 Awarded as TICA judge for 25 years of service My Passion for TICA I have devoted my love and passion for TICA for over 30 years. I am a lifetime member of TICA since its birth, in 1979. We studied "Show Rule and By-Laws" etc. from the beginning. I wanted to let Japanese people know about TICA and I made every effort to promote the different breeds of purebred cats and to educate cat fanciers. Holding cat shows for those purposes, I made continuous efforts to promote the greatness of the ASIA Region in the TICA organization around the world. We, as a regional members, director, judges, breeders and fanciers, with each goal are all making efforts for the development of TICA. But please remember that we can do anything if we get united together to make efforts. Recently, there were strong attacks, gossip and bashing for TICA and TICA ASIA online. Now is the time that we need a strong leader to serve and act for TICA ASIA Region. At the closing date of TICA ASIA candidacy, I was watching the current ASIA Director giving her best effort to work and serve for TICA ASIA and I was supporting her. But considering the current situation, and with lots of voices of members asking me to "rebuild the reputation of Japan", I decided to run as a write-in candidate for TICA ASIA directorship. About ACT CAT CLUB show on Apr. 29th, 2013 Lots of members are concerned about our current situation. TICA judge, Ms. Juri Yawata who is president of ACT CAT CLUB is/was relentlessly attacking, bashing online in an extreme manner, mainly towards the current director, a few other judges including myself and few other members on her club website publicly. Ms. Yawata is running as a candidate for TICA ASIA Regional Director, but her action is beyond anyone's acceptable limit of a negative campaign for the election, and it is disgracing TICA. It is extremely regretful. I would like to tell a short, but accurate version of what happened. This show had an unprecedented number of complaints from overseas. During the Spring Board meeting, Ms. Juri Yawata was demoted 2 ranks from Provisional Allbreed judge to Probationary Specialty judge. Afterward, during a hearing at the Annual Board Meeting in Seattle, Ms Yawata's demotion was upheld and she was demoted to Probationary Specialty judge by a unanimous vote of all TICA Board members. This was an Executive Session and exact details are not available. See the minutes from the meeting, #50. http://www.tica.org/members/meetings/annual_2013.pdf Also, President of TICA, Ms. Vickie Fisher issued a message on TICA TREND and online TICA website, regarding this matter. Please see an excerpt from her message. "Sadly, your Board of Directors dealt with an unprecedented number of complaints and allegations of poor sportsmanship at the end of this last show season. You have seen or will see the disposition of some of those complaints. Have we forgotten about sportsmanship? Is winning so important that we will resort to testing the limits of the rules to win? To win at any cost?" Showing our cats should include consideration for all those who share our passion and we should always remember to practice fairness, ethics and respect for one another - everywhere in TICA's world. We should always be both gracious winners and gracious losers. This matter also became a controversial issue on TICA Members List also. I want to remind all of the Asia Region members with good conscience that Ms. Juri Yawata, who was sanctioned and confirmed to be demoted 2 ranks unanimously by the board of directors, is running for TICA ASIA Regional director. This is truly an abnormal circumstance and the matter should be everyone's concern. If nothing is done, we cannot rebuild the reputation of our region. So, we need a true, strong leader to rebuild TICA Japan's reputation. I can show you the direction which should be selected and I will fight whatever or whoever we have to confront. I shall act according to my faith. I want to stop the confusion, which was caused by one judge, and to bring back the harmony and friendship according to TICA's motto. I will apply and enforce TICA Rules and by-laws fairly and evenly, and I will use my 2 terms of TICA ASIA Regional Director experience to put us on the right path. If we unite together, I believe that we can conquer any goals!! My Goals 1. Seminars for TICA Show Rules and By-Laws. We may have a language barrier, but I would like to share the knowledge and information with English speaking members. Also, I would like younger people to participate . 2. Quick posting of Show Report 3. I would like Regional Winners other than Japanese members. For now, it is almost impossible for Non-Japanese members to achieve Regional Winner in Asia. It would be better to separate Japan and other Asian region, so they can have their own regional winner. I would like to discuss sincerely with the rest of the current ASIA regional members. 4. Increase TICA (ASIA) members Closing Remarks TICA for Fabulous Feline, Fun, Friendship - This is TICA's motto. This is a simple motto, but so true!! I would like to revive a friendly TICA ASIA Region! Please support for me as your Regional Director! When you receive the ballot from TICA which should be in hot pink color usually, there is a space for a write-in candidate, so please write-in my name, Motoko Oizumi, Then your vote can count.
