  3. Immense anger & fear among civilians in Idlib upon hearing about the Tel Rifaat offensive. Residents are confident they've been sold out. They think Turkey will be allowed by Russia to capture the area under YPG control in exchange of letting the regime advance in Hama/Idlib.

Thread about the convergence between Arab tyrants and Western/Northern (We don't want to forget the guys east of London) authoritarians & racists. And, sadly, way too many self-proclaimed leftists who can't let go of Leninist fantasies and phony "anti-imperialism".

  8. Global attention & media coverage shifted to other areas, but 3 million people continue to live in opposition-held northwest, subject to intense airstrikes. They have no where to run. Hospitals, electricity stations & residential all being targeted by Russia & the Syrian regime

  9. Activists in Idlib & Hama are reporting over 80 strikes by the Russian and Syrian regime air forces since this AM. Thousands are fleeing their homes. Look at TL of the monitoring network to see reports every few minutes of jets taking off to bomb population centers.

  10. Time & again, Israel proves that it only responds to violence. When Hamas held its fire & reduced fence riots, Israel slow-rolled the concessions it was supposed to deliver (Qatari money, easing closure). Expect Israel to agree to do now what it refused to do a week ago.

Hamas and PIJ betting that Israel will not do much more in response to the rockets than airstrikes against empty targets, as has been the case since August 2014 and that in return for another temporary ceasefire there will be more money coming from Qatar. They're probably right.

Hamas and PIJ know that Netanyahu A. Doesn't want to deal with Gaza but keep it eternally on the back-burner. B. Hates military escalations. C. This time especially doesn't want to ruin Independence Day and the Eurovision with reports of rocket launches. So they're pushing now >>

Can we all cut to the chase - save us the rockets, air strikes and casualties - and just have Netanyahu cave now? Eurovision in Tel Aviv starts in 10 days. Months of preparation & millions spent. Singers are already here. 1 Hamas rocket could undo it all.

This is not a plan to bring peace, it’s a plan to reshape the basis of negotiations to where the Israelis are no longer expected to make any major concessions. In other words it’s an effort to anchor effective recognition of an Israeli victory, or “victory,” in U.S. diplomacy.
