I enjoy your art, regardless of whether you draw cubs or not. It's unfortunate that this could cut into your business, but I completely understand your decision and if this is something you've been wanting to do anyway, then at least you won't be losing something that's important to you and that is good to know. I wish you all the best for the future, and I will be looking forward to seeing whatever you may post and where you might take your art from here.

Yeah, stomach still feels clenched up over it, and it felt like willfully taking a step off of a roof into a big ass leap of faith. I'm still nervous about it but I think I'll be able to do a lot of new opportunities. Though that being said, I'm not leaving IB or the stream regulars. I'll just be changing the art I draw during.

Im gonna be honest this is just to appease the masses they are not actually gonna apply this rule is too much work. that why many of their other rules have never actually been apply either

but to the theme at hand i understand you dont wanting to do more cub is your choice as an artist and i respect it, but dont look down on other artist because they stand by their choices. dont go teeling them is gonna get harder when reality it always being they good attack on FA years ago. and they will keep getting attack but is not to pity them but on the contrary to admire them for standing in what they believe. (besides the rule they show for loli is not actually real on court because is between in the obscene part of the law and that part in court can be defended by the first amendment that is why is not persecuted by the law no court want to be involved in it because is a mockery to them)

In resume i know you are not saying to be mean or dis-considered to those artist but it needs to be said that they should not fear is just another place more that doesnt accept them (beside most of the cub artist dont use discord to post they use other places)

and about your choice good for you is understandably so. i just wish you could just ignore it but moving on is something that every one does

It wasn't that short, but FN sure caved quickly after it became a perceived issue. Unfortunately caving to censors rarely gets those complaining to use a site - they're currently languishing at the 200,000th top site by traffic (it was at least 120k before).

Similarly Weasyl's dropped from ~10k users at peak to 3k (the recent spike is from FA's thumbnail server falling over). IB is at 27k for comparison; the trend there is a slow rise (which is one reason we keep having to add transfer capacity). Without unique content, it's hard to compete against FA - and perhaps moreso against general-purpose social networks and chat services such as Facebook, Discord, Telegram and Twitter.

Speaking of FN, I'm seeing ads on e621 announcing their commission marketplace- the thing that had been envisioned and touted as the unique showcase feature whose implementation they assured us in May-June 2016 was imminent. I'm not sure when exactly they finally completed that, but I doubt it was before the last few months. I also have no idea how they circumvented or overcame the payment processors' and credit card companies' extreme dislike of pornographic materials of literally every sexual fetish conceivable EXCEPT underage (and even vanilla porn they dislike)- which was the exact reason they failed in their effort to monetize F-List via premium membership subscriptions not long before.

I'm glad to see they're still in a slump, and I find it very amusing the crusaders just fucked off back to FA after winning their blitzkrieg campaign. It's even funnier that many or most of them hadn't bothered reading their ToS. The two primary agitators against InkedFur's allowance of cub in 2015 and later literally had to be told by the owner well after they joined, which he did in an off-handed and casual way because it was obvious and the ToS they were supposed to have read and had tacitly agreed to by registering didn't ban it, and thus he was sure they already knew.

People need to realize Twitter's culture isn't representative of RL interpersonal affairs or the greater furry culture. The size of the enemy faction is ostensibly large and ferocious, but ultimately small and anemic and poorly coordinated.

Apparently people don't consider alternatives to doing X because Y did something.

Why not set up your own subscription based website and art gallery? This solves the problem of cutting out both Patreon AND Discord as middlemen - and can probably be done for less than what Patreon takes for their pledges.

I don't really care that much about cub art itself. But the fact that one platform, just one platform, updating its policy is enough to scare this many people into giving it up is just really frightening to me. I don't like the way the world is constantly trying to censor things it doesn't like, limit the ways that people can think, speak and express themselves. And whenever something like this happens... It not only frightens me, it angers me too.
I get that there's more to your particular case than Discord's new policy, and in the end it's your choice, but still... I don't like it. And I'm not gonna pretend that I do either. And I'm not saying that because I'm angry at you, but rather that you're being forced to make this choice.
If I become Earth's dictator, I'd give all artists the freedom to produce and publish whatever shit they wanted without fear of retaliation, so long as it doesn't directly cause anyone harm. Because I'd rather see a world filled with edgy nazi propaganda and animated child porn than one of censorship...

Do you think to make a large change in your style? Personally I was more a fan of your style per-se than the cub style.
And keeping apart sadness of cub commissioners, i am thinking it would be bad if you also force yourself to change style to "distance" as much as possible from your previous works. I hope you will keep to draw character retainings a young/teen style even if aged up a bit. I could stress how blurring the lines is also somewhat fine... i could mention some popular furry on FA who basically works on this line xD

I think about 10% of my gallery are personal pieces I did for fun, some of them are cub too. I have a decent amount of personal art I haven't posted, mostly because it's not even furry related. I like doing nsfw art, pinups, character portraits, monsters, and such, but I've never thought of myself as a "cub artist", just an artist who had student loans to repay and was willing to draw cub because I had no negative feelings towards it.

Most commission artists are for money - in many ways this is a good thing; you probably do not want a service provider making decisions about serving customers based on their personal views.

Here there was a business decision - "am I likely to make more money later, given the significant risk of making less money now?" It may be right, it may not be, that is the nature of business.

On the plus side, there will be others willing to provide. One artist leaving opens an opportunity for others whose evaluation differs. And if it becomes clear that such a decision isn't working out, it can be reconsidered, and a new plan adopted - whereas those made on moral grounds tend not to be.

I appreciate your assuring and confident observation during this period of strife and aggression from within and outside of furrydom. I hadn't really contemplated the matter from that perspective.

Actually, I'm seeing a disturbing trend in general towards censorship, mainly by mega social media and game companies, now that I think about it. Us cubfurs have suffered a rapid succession of major defeats over the last 6-12 months, and even the fucking UN is shitting on us and Japanese artists who do shotacon/lolicon. However, I've observed a general trend by Silicon Valley-type mega corporations towards banning more speech, and banning more people (and frequently, banning people more readily). And good luck to all establishing contact with a real person in order to appeal, especially on Twitter.

The NZ affair's aftermath- social media and the government working in tandem, the government via its "Chief Censor" declaring that possessing a video and document is punishable by up to 14 years in prison, and the global population's docility on these matters- was absolutely alarming to witness. I've never gone from total indifference to acute and overwhelming antipathy towards a government and a culture so rapidly. Twitter literally punished repeatedly at least one journalist merely for covering this and revealing certain things such as NZ selling access to the same stuff they banned for the general population (NZ's government deemed it acceptable for limited ranges of people such as academicians, security specialists, etc., to own the materials so they could serve the greater good via their vocations, but they have to pay over $100 to apply- this is simultaneously a mitigating and aggravating factor regarding the government).

They shouldn't try to rebuild the original one. Discord seemed to never have hired a professional ui designer.

PS: There's nothing to "own up to" because you didn't do anything wrong. Drawing art, no matter the subject matter, is not wrong. By saying there's some "decision that you need to own up to" suggests that all the rest of the artists out there who draw art of this sort DO have something wrong with what they did. Some clients don't want artwork from an artist who also draws cub art.
Or regarding Patreon, people will leave your Patreon, when you post a lot art you aren't like or interested in.

Care to explain what you mean by that? Keep in mind that I'm not one of the people suggesting that this artist needs to keep up with cub art; I'm okay with cub, but I'll defend their decision. But commissioned art in general is a fine job, if someone can pay the bills with it, or at least supplement their income.

The Discord change was more of a last straw that broke the camel's back kind of thing. It didn't cause my desire to stop cub art, but it gave me a push to finally make the difficult decision that I was putting off.

Honestly, the cub exception was unambiguously inconsistent with their general ToS and previous moral commentary regarding underage characters, and I felt at best that was a precarious status quo. I'm genuinely dumbfounded it took the Sexual Purity Brigade that long to mobilize against them. I was also surprised by outside forces assisting them on that rather than it remaining a furry/artist affair.

Of course, the impetus to protest Discord and the likelihood of it succeeding was greatly bolstered by a confluence of factors. The cub porn inconsistency, revelations about the unprofessionalism of the furry admins in Trust and Safety who were responsible for the cub exception, and the FBI's involvement due to sexual criminal activity regarding children, were mutually aggravating and caused this catastrophe. I blame mostly the furry admins' stupidity and childishness. Without that, there would have been little impetus for action.

Heh, and, I don't think the lead admin even is into cub. That makes this even wilder.

In order to stay in the green you must avoid all other shades of color. Sorry what I am trying to convey is if cub is not getting you anywhere and other things are go for it. After all it is your decision after all is said and done. Just don't fall into the first cub, second feral, third anything mature so on so on. I have been following your art for a while and while cub art is not my thing I don;t bash others for liking it. I just hope you don't say screw it I won't do anything that causes anyone to complain or report on me. Hell IB is a good way to post taboo things and no one here bitches about it, because of the filter buttons. Juts keep on doing what you love and people will flock to ya.

Stopping cub art on Patreon and Discord is one thing. I don't like it, but I get your reasons, but why commissions? That one doesn't make sense to me.

edit: Further, IF these assholes get their way and cub porn is eradicated from the internet, they're simply going to find something else to be offended by. SOMETHING is always going to be volatile. I don't think anyone should give an inch on this. It only makes things worse for everyone in the long run.

Yeah, the cub purge is really annoying though to be honest, unless anything is reported it doesn't close discord accounts. They mostly added it to protect themselves if they do have to close down a server or ban someone as they can state it is against their TOS now. The enforcement is really really low. Try telegram, good place to move to if you want no hastle for cub. If you are stopping though that is fine.

However, we have no idea if in the future both porn of any caliber drawn or not will be banned from both patreon and others. Apple has been heavily responsible for much of the purge, if you follow the money that is.

i've checked before posting this, to see if other people did talk about it... but yea telegram can be fine for this but people are like "use telegram!"... but i'll add you can make a private channel and invite people yourself and then remove those people as needed, hopefully if it works correctly (but that you need to inform yourself) it would be like if the links aren't permanent, i think you can ask for the link of the channel to be replaced with a new one manually in the channel options (i made only groups but not channels but it could maybe work similarly)... anyways i understand it's not as easy as discord for like putting options to who can view channels and who can't and things like that... but if it's really shit and you still want to continue doing this you could try make multiple channels on telegram... or send emails to the people directly or find any other ways to share things, i'm sure there's plenty of ways but you need to find it, outside of all this "popular" stuff

I'm glad you have the confidence to distance yourself hon. You shouldn't force yourself to do things you are not comfortable with in the current climate or just feel like it ain't worth it.
