WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, I AM CURIOUS WHY PERFORMERS FROM THE FURRY FANDOM ITSELF ARENT COMPED FOR THINGS AS SMALL AS BADGES WHILE AN OUT OF FANDOM DJ IS BOOKED & A PUBLIC BILLBOARD HAVE BUDGET? SHOULDNT WE PRIORITIZE SUPPORTING FURRY ARTISTS WHO BELONG TO THE COMMUNITY FOREMOST?
-
DJ's are volunteers just like people helping in the registration line. I don't think it's viable to give free admission to every person that gives an hour of their time to volunteer
-
DJS ARE ARTISTS, MUSICIANS, AND PERFORMING ENTERTAINERS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT. IT CAN TAKE A LOT OF TIME, EXPERIENCE, AND WORK TO BE A GOOD ARTIST. I THINK MINIMIZING WHAT A MAIN STAGE PERFORMER OR DJ DOES TO THAT EXTENT IS REALLY UNFAIR AND A BIG SLIGHT TO THE MUSIC COMMUNITY.
-
I understand this as I am myself a DJ but if you don't want to volunteer for the convention you don't have to, it's as simple as that. DJ's are very important, just as important as the other volunteers that help the convention run!
-
Exactly this. Cons are not *your* platform. They are a space where people are offered a chance to volunteer to share things they love, or to help create positive experiences for others. If you think you deserve compensation, don't play there. Go find a business venue.
-
To be fair this doesn’t line up. You can’t claim that Mystery Skulls playing (and being paid) for FWA is valid but then claim that Fandom DJs (who have to apply and be chosen btw) are volunteers. Either musicians & DJs are performers or they aren’t. You can’t have it both ways
-
My point is that a lot of people work towards making conventions what they are. No one is asking for Fandom DJs to be paid thousands of dollars. But for the DJs, Floor War organizers, Dance Comp organizers, and variety show organizers they are literally putting on the biggest
-
Events of the ENTIRE con. That’s time. That energy. That’s money spent getting to the con and hotel. And that’s EXPERIENCE. People don’t just suddenly become good at these things. We all saw what happened when FWA refused to pay Oddy. Experience and talent is valid.

People are bringing up some valid concerns over this and I hope y’all have some solid explanations.
-
Seems like an awkward thing to advertise.. Does it make us more a target of people wanting a freak show? Seems like people who don't already know it's happening, probably don't really need to be told
-
It isn't awkward for Atlanta. All the anime cons do billboards here!
-
Guess it just rubs me the wrong way because I don't like the idea of intentionally trying to make furry mainstream. The general Spiderman, Master Chief and Elsa cons are already products of worldwide commercial enterprises, so nobody is raising eyebrows at those
-
Yeah I get where you're coming from. I think furry is already going mainstream though whether we want it to or not. It will always be a unique fandom though. Like you said we all have our own characters - we celebrate individuals, not a franchise.
