An ultrasonic flaw detection system for rails has been renewed at Shapes Plant, West Japan Works, JFE Steel to upgrade its quality assurance capability. To enhance detectability and expand the detection area for rails having a complicated cross section, an ultrasonic flaw detection system applying a complicated technique has been newly developed. In addition, by taking appropriate measures to improve its signal-to-noise ratio, good flaw detection performance has been obtained. This flaw detection system has been put into on line in 2001 and has greatly contributed to the quality improvement of various rails including for Shinkansen. |
