Change as a mod

I removed myself as a mod.

However, I am not going anywhere as I love Ethereum and love the relationships I’ve made in this amazing community. I will continue to support, fund and build projects in Ethereum and participate in conversations about the technology.

I believe that Ethereum will sit at the centre of the future of Web3, but I like to be open-minded and support other experiments in the evolution of this technology. What has always made the Ethereum community so great is our open-mindedness to experimentation and trying new approaches.

As the community has evolved over these years, it is clear that some prefer that mods be working 100% on just Ethereum-related projects. I respect this view even if I observe that so many members of our community are experimenting with different technologies simultaneously and I believe that is a healthy approach considering how early we are in the arc of Web3. I believe the line between "working on Ethereum" and working on other things will blur as we move forward and I believe that my position is representative of a growing cohort of our community members. I'd like to thank the other mods and everyone who has offered support on this and encouraged me to stay as a mod.

However, in the interest of focusing the conversation around the technology, let’s have some other community members take a turn at moding so that this isn’t a debate topic. I would invite people to nominate others to the mod group. I have been particularly impressed by the DigixDAO team the last few days here in Singapore and their work in bringing the community together. We should also have appropriate geographical representation and different parts of the world involved so that mods are available 24/7.

Thanks for everything you've done for the community /u/rzurrer!

Thanks Ryan.

Thank you for taking the honorable path. May death come swiftly to your enemies.

I move to nominate /u/DeviateFish_ as a moderator. This isn't even a joke :-) A contrarian and marginalized voice among the moderators would be a welcome improvement. Otherwise, /u/DCinvestor would be a respectable second choice.

I would love to have lntrospectre as mod. It is important to have mods who are intolerant of cowardly action, and who are not afraid to admit they make mistakes, yet are consistent. Introspectre fits all the qualities I look for in discussion leadership.

I think with two good mods, this forum can get refocused on to Ethereum, and making results a priority.

I want to also take a sec to say I appreciate Soup for what he has done to address the community. He speaks first, and is often the only speaker, almost as if he has asked everyone not to speak, but we all know that is not the case; he is simply the only one that cares to respond. Thus, I thought he was the president lol. Regardless, he puts himself on the spot and takes a lot of heat, that's not easy for anyone and he has done it voluntarily.

If we had a few more like, I think we'd have an interesting, interactive, community dynamic. Vitalik use to participate, and few others have stepped up to fill the shadow. Once we got that, we will be go chugging, IMO.

Edit: I would also nominate Ameensol, as he spoke out when it the time mattered. Instead of growing fungus with problems festered in the dark, he cleaned up the sink - that's leadership we need.

Thanks for your concern, and don't worry, I'm not interested interested in being a mod here. And 'ya know, I really know nothing about this technology. I thought ETH was just a token for trading...does it actually do something? /s

By the way, for the record, if people who work at a VC firm can be a mod (as you did) and can then become a salesperson for another chain (as you do), then I don't see why any investor who cares passionately about Ethereum, its community, and its tech could not be a mod.

I may have investor in my name, and I may invest in Ethereum, but reducing my and other investors' participation in this community to just monetary self-interest with no understanding of or appreciation for the technology is myopic and somewhat insulting.

I'm not speaking of you specifically or anyone else. I respect what you do for Ethereum. If you want to be a mod, you should reach out.

I don't want to be a mod, I already said that, and have actually said so in multiple fora.

But as a former mod here, I assume you know DeviateFish_ is a provocateur (surely not an ETH investor), and I assume you know I'm an "investor," or could presume as implied by my name. Therefore, I can only assume your reply to u/lntrospectre was directed at me.

Next time, I suggest that you just admit you said something stupid and move on. Telling me the comment wasn't about me when it was obviously about me comes across as unnecessary lie for saying something you may now regret.

Anyway, good luck to you, Ryan. Look forward to talking about Ethereum as a technology here for a long, long time.

Yeah why would you want someone with skin in the game serving in such a position on an Ethereum dedicated subreddit/forum... /s

I’m also genuinely interested in what you consider yourself as a broker of deals and glorified DOT salesman?

You’re not a technologist really, nor a developer. So we’re meant to believe you’re just a noble, righteous servant of the technology trying to make a better world? Do you think we are all fucking stupid?

level 4

You’re like a giant puke fest of self righteousness and virtue signaling, wrapped in “smile through your teeth” platitudes while bad mouthing projects and communities behind their backs.

You’re so genuine, it hurts.

Thank you, this is the best way to show you still value Ethereum. Although I wish you had done it earlier and had laid off the rhetoric.

Did you really have to say that?
