Anyone saying "They can do restoration", that spire falling is exactly the sort of thing that can never be re-created. The stone shell of the Cathedral is nothing without with sculptures, windows, and countless detail. This is like watching the Mona Lisa burn.

It's a total loss nothing can restore that it won't ever even be close. No reason to try. So sad

They restored Reims Cathedral after it was shelled, and did a bloody good job. It can be done, and it should be.

800 years of history ... The cathedral saw Saint Louis, the wedding of Marie Stuart, Napoleon becoming an emperor, Charles de Gaules in 1945, etc. The cathedral saw the history of our country and it's too soon to talk about restoration. It's time for national mourning right now..

Je suis vraiment désolé pour la France en ce moment... The witness to nearly 900 years of French history, and the love, devotion, and lives put into every bit of it is being lost.

You can care about more than one thing - the Notre Dame is the legacy of people, it’s history, it’s culture, it’s beauty. People can be heartbroken to see history burning AND still care about people right now and tomorrow. I don’t see the contest.
-
This is an ongoing problem with our society right now. Caring about one thing seems to make others think that's it, that's the only thing you care about. It's possible for the human brain to have feelings about more than one thing at one time!
-
Actually caring about anything makes it easier to care about something else. Caring increases your capacity to care about others, history, the planet, wild life. It is hate that shuts down your capacity to care for anything at all.

Wow, that really brought back 9/11 for me
-
This is basically Paris’s tiny version of 9/11 that was their twin towers, and they just watched it burn and collapse. I see where she’s coming from
-
I suppose. But 3,000 people died because of hate. As far as we know, this was an accidental fire. In the grand scheme of things, they cannot be compared.

He said it brought it back for him, not that it's the same...

Yes, let us stop judging each other. We are all perfectly imperfect.
