I so want the Tories out, which is why Labour has to get a grip on this crisis. For instance, how is this person still not expelled after 11 months? How can she still defend these posts? What message does this give to Jews and others worried about Labour?pic.twitter.com/FQ2ZPbA3Bw

Elections are nearing. The right wing press has gone on overdrive on Anti semitism once again.
#dailymail has even got an 8 page pull out on how to stop Corbyn or avoid paying tax available today.pic.twitter.com/mKUrblGNIK -
The antisemitism thing is different. It’s a genuine issue that needs addressing.
-
It's different? David, surely you see this is part of the whole, it's the thing that's gained most traction with the public - mostly due to a lack of understanding. Societal anti-semitism is real & so is the smear campaign against Corbyn - both are truehttps://caitlinjohnstone.com/2019/03/03/how-and-how-not-to-beat-a-smear-campaign/ …
-
It needs addressing for sure. It was here before Corbyn, it will be here after and by god it's far more serious in other parties. Perspective and timings are very important. The Times had to issue a formal apology the last time it ran a story like this. Electioneering.
-
I don’t care if it is other parties. I am a member of the Labour Party because I want to fight racism, yet I am seeing it inside the party I am passionate about. There are no excuses. Let’s just accept anti semitism exists in the party and deal with it.
-
Two things: - Anti-semitism within society, within institutions, & that espoused by individuals. - An establishment smear campaign against JC. Anti-semitism is real, & so is the smear campaign against Corbyn - both are true.https://caitlinjohnstone.com/2019/03/03/how-and-how-not-to-beat-a-smear-campaign/ …
-
One thing- AS exists in the Labour Party. It shouldn’t. We can do better to eradicate it & change the culture. If some are using that as a smear campaign, then the worse things we can do is be defensive & abusive about what does exist. Let’s just focus on doing better

-

This is awful and the party needs to get a grip but there are people literally dieing due to Tory austerity which is a much more pressing problem. I do not believe this is more of a problem than it is in the Tory party which is riddled with racists.
-
In order to make sure we get a Labour government we need to deal with this. Would you dismiss any other forms of prejudice as “not pressing”? Would you turn a blind eye to them or do everything you can to deal with them.
-
No, you are right David, all forms of prejudice are pressing. I just refuse to believe that Corbyn is antisemitic and that's the real accusation here.

Utterly disgraceful. Anti semitism must end. BUT, we must be able to criticise the Israeli government’s deplorable, illegal and inhuman treatment of the Palestinians, WITHOUT being accused of being anti Semitic...
-
Of course. As long as those criticisms aren’t antisemitic, we absolutely must. Perfectly possible to criticise the Israeli government without leaning into AS.
-
Absolutely. I raise the point merely because there seems to be an increasingly worrying trend towards conflating the two, where any criticism of said policies is deemed to be anti-Semitic. I’m thinking of
@mishtal@gnasherjew@SussexFriends among many others -
Out of interest which other countries in the world do you feel the need to especially criticise?
-
Ah yes. That question. Had this before. There are many that I criticise, just not in this space. But thanks..
-
So JUST Israel then? LOL.
