Obviously this wasn’t right, but when you had such a great story why (a) did you refuse to sell it or (b) assuming a suitable credit would be given, refuse to allow its use? Maybe the second one is obvious - you’re entitled to be paid for your work - but why not sell it?

The story appeared in another outlet. RTE should not force me to sell my work to them or they'll simply take it anyway
-
That clarifies it thanks.

Not on when photographers work is taken uncredited I've seen recommendations that they invoice for the picture. Can you do this?
-
I've done that. If they don't pay up you can take them to small claims court for amounts up to €3k.
-
Like it's obviously wrong to ignore the no but you should definitely pursue it Norma. (And fair play on the reporting, you are very brave to visit a warzone)

Great story. The way you describe how it was treated can't be justified.
@rtenews need to respond. -
1000 employees and €6.7 million deficit in 2017 and still robbing content from professional people... What a great organisation !

Speaks to some fundamental flaws in RTÉ that they would exploit the labour of freelancers in some of the most dangerous environments to do journalism

Disgraceful but unfortunately nothing will be done as you say
@rtenews are the state broadcaster meaning they're untouchable just like their boss@LeoVaradkar is. As long as they keep reporting on exactly what Fine Gael want they'll be allowed do whatever they want@deeforbes_deeThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Get yourself to a solicitor with experience in copyright law and intellectual property expertise, blatant ignorance of the law is not acceptable, seek redress personally from the individual who you refused permission and RTÉ.
