Kazuo:
What do you hope Japanese audiences take away from Dumbo?「ダンボ」を見る人に感じてほしいことは？
Colin Farrell:
I hope they are taken away into another world. I mean, the world that was created, and that in which the film takes place is so elaborate and so beautiful and colorful. But it's also filled with times ... particularly in the first half of the film, I think, pain, uncertainty, and fear of separation, the loss and the sadness that comes as a result of losing those you love. I mean there are kind of heavy themes that are explored in the film. I think that's a good thing, and all those things take place within this film.この映画の世界に、見る人が引き込まれてくれれば嬉しいです。この世界は、精巧に作られていて、美しくてカラフルですから。でも同時に、この映画、特に前半部分では、痛みや不安、切り離される恐れ、愛する者を失う喪失感や悲しみも描かれています。つまり、重たいテーマも描かれています。この映画には、そういった全てのものが語られているのが良いですね。
この映画の監督は、「バットマン」「シザーハンズ」「チャーリーとチョコレート工場」「アリス・イン・ワンダーランド」などを世に送り出してきたハリウッドの鬼才、ティム・バートン。監督との仕事はどのようなものだったのでしょうか？
Colin Farrell:
It was a dream, man. He is divine. I love him, and it was so much fun every day. I just felt like a kid in a sandbox. We were all in the one location, but it was a circus every day. They filled the set with circus performers from all over the globe. Everything, every tent, every blade of grass was real, and as I said, there were circus performers everywhere you looked, so it was a lot of fun. And Tim is very engaged in the process, and he is quite excitable as well at times, so I thoroughly enjoyed it.夢のようだったね。彼はすばらしいですよ。大ファンです。もう毎日、砂場で遊ぶ子どもの気分でしたよ。一か所での撮影でしたが、まさに毎日がサーカス。セットは、世界中から集まったパフォーマーであふれていました。全てのテント、一本一本の草まで、全て本物で、今言ったように周りはパフォーマーだらけ。とっても楽しかったですよ。監督は、こだわりがすごくて、時には大興奮していたし、何もかもが楽しかったですよ。
Kazuo:
We are an English language learning show. Do you have any favorite sayings, or favorite words, or favorite motto?これは英語学習の番組です。好きなことわざ、言葉、座右の銘はありますか？
Colin Farrell:
"Fortune favours the bold," is that a nice one? I remember meeting an Irish actor when I was 22 or 23. It was my first or second time in Los Angeles, and I had seen him in many films through my years and in my youth, and he said, "Keep being bold." It was just a lovely thing to be told, "Keep being bold," and so I think, "Fortune favours the bold" is a nice motto.「幸運は勇者に味方する」なんかは良いかな？ 22、3歳の頃に、あるアイルランドの俳優に会ったんです。初めてか、2回目にロサンゼルスに来たときだったかな。その俳優の映画は、青春時代にもたくさん見ていたんです。彼は、「勇気を持ち続けろよ」と言ったんです。「勇気を持ち続けろ」、とてもすてきな言葉を言われたんですよ。ですから、「幸運は勇者に味方する」は、良い座右の銘ですよね。
