Privately saying "be careful who you take sides with" literally meant what it said-- beware of trusting people who were twisting things. Which they went ahead and did, claiming that the opinion was a "veiled" threat (a weasel word). It was no threat, but they used it to harass.
That was a betrayal by Carcin after I stuck my neck out for him when he asked me to host his controversial story, and Hugo spread viciously false attacks after I loyally promoted his stuff. That's why now stuff like this has to be said, instead of giving labor to help people.
Bad faith isn't criticism, block people who do that. Trying to reason with it can encourage it and fuel harassment and backlash, and undermine valid issues. But a result is tons of stories that there were no resources or time to work on before have nobody telling them now.
Speaking of work, people who act like complicated issues are someone's job to solve and they're entitled to it, and writing is easy/profitable, and it's a victory to "cancel" with callouts for not doing what they expect, are like kids trashing a place for shitworkers to fix.
This hobby always cost more than anyone knows, but in spite of backlash, a lot of good was accomplished with issues that would be much worse if nobody said anything. There will be more stories coming that promote good things.
