Blackberries are perennial berry bushes that typically have thorns, green leaves, and berries that when ripened turn black. Blackberries are naturally found in Asia, Europe and North America and South America, and they have most likely been eaten by humans for thousands of years. The earliest records of human consumption go back 2,000 years. There are over 200 different varieties of blackberries, and some varieties are even thorn less. At least one variety of blackberry can be found in each of the 50 states in the US. They do however, grow best in temperate regions.
