Imamoglu shows photo of winning in 1994, CHP candidate holding Erdogan’s hand in celebration of democracy. We’re in 2019 now. That’s how it should be done.

Imamoglu: give to us. We have not a minute to lose. This is not the end of the world. 16million people here are happy. I see happiness in people’s eyes. Government’s attitude is unethical, accusing people of being thieves. Finalise this process. It’s urgent.

Imamoglu: there were some errors in vote tallies. We have examples of where mistakes made against us. It’s obvious it doesn’t change result. Ballot box watchers acted against invalid votes on election night. If they’re now acting under political pressure, it’s wrong.

Imamoglu: Government is now using ways to delete files they haven’t managed to delete. Municipal staff are being oppressed. If they’re being asked by government to take political actions, my message is ignore them.

candidate ⁦⁩: and others have constantly said ’s electoral system is fair. They’re now acting like they’ve lost their toys. 16 million people shouldn’t be victims of their internal conflicts. It’s a shame, disrespectful.

So maybe the strategy is: grudgingly accept the results but by planting seed of doubt in AKP minds, deprive Imamoglu and Yavas of legitimacy, at least from AKP voters, for their entire mandate. That, along with potentially starving cities of cash, would be seen as AKP success.

’s government is arguably shooting itself in foot by contesting these elections as it challenges their claim that electoral process here is fair and brings their disputed results in Ankara 2014 &referendum 2017 back into focus. But I’m not sure that’s their thought process

And another one. Editor of another pro-government rag Yeni Safak says the elections must be repeated because PKK and Gulenists have carried out a coup. Tactic: sew the seed of doubt in people’s minds and then...

It was only a matter of time. Pro-government papers now using the magic word “coup” to describe election results, which AKP is disputing.
