This is fascinating. In Pazaryeri district of Bilecik, the secretary of the AKP mayor - Zekiye Tekin - endured mobbing & was fired. In turn, she ran as a mayoral candidate against her former employer and won.

The most amazing aspect if this press conference by İmamoğlu is that Turkish TV channels and media outlets are actually broadcasting it! All last night and this morning, it was only Fox TV and few lesser known opposition TV channels.

An example of how HDP votes helped opposition in Istanbul is the case of Esenyurt which has a big Kurdish population. AKP won Esenyurt in 2014 with 47% of the votes. CHP vote: 31% & HDP: 10% (Demirtaş vote in 2018 was 16%). In this election, CHP won Esenyurt with 51% vs AKP 46%.

Consequently, is now the party with the largest local political control over Turkish province GDP, roughly 2x the amount of second largest party,

Again, that is LOCAL control, the central government obviously looms large and is controlled by the AKP. And it assumes that all provinces have the same mayors as the province capital. Also, provinces with tight races could flip if there are recounts etc.

This is back-of-the envelope calculation but as far as I can tell in terms of 2014 province-level GDP, the losses of Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul etc mean AKP now only has local control over 30% of Turkish province GDP, down from 75% before. If this stands that's pretty significant
