Which route they choose, and how it plays out, depends heavily on how they calculate international and local actors will react.

Gambit 3: The AKP just keeps Istanbul de facto, and screw the result. If the media says it has Istanbul, it has Istanbul.

This morning, posters appeared in Istanbul. They're from the AKP mayoral candidate thanking the people for his victory, despite no final announcement of results in a close race. Rest of the world: ... it's April 1st! Turkey watchers: 🤔

I had to re-read this a few times to make sure, but DHA is reporting that İmamoğlu has won in Istanbul.

It’s still too early to comment on Turkey’s local elections. It ain’t over till it’s over. But it’s fun to watch all the “hot takes.” As I keep chanting: whether AKP agrees to election results or not is more important than election results.

Some of you are finding my pemissism misplaced: may I just remind you that in a) 2017 referendum YSK announced AFTER polls had closed that unstamped ballots would count, b) the lengths gone to for the sake of regaining parliamentary majority in Nov 2015, c) irregularities of 2014

And it'll only take a week or two for AKP to file its objections and "take back" other places it deems too important to lose. (Here's looking at my beloved Ankara).
