Let's fix academic posters! Prepping a poster for #SIOP19 and sick of the old "wall-of-text" poster design? Watch this cartoon to see a new, faster approach to designing research posters. Includes templates. #betterposter https://youtu.be/1RwJbhkCA58 pic.twitter.com/UBYB2GzIv9

You're right, navigating
#poster sessions is taxing - this is so much more useful! Thanks for sharing! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Organizing a symposium for this summer, which will include a poster session. Was trying to figure out whether blitz presentations would be better than a poster session. Your clip changed my mind. Will recommend your template! Great work!

Hahaha, yes, this has been tweeted to me sooooo many times today. The more people railing against shitty posters, the better!

Thank you for the insight. I would suggest spending some time talking about color. A green background and white letters might not be good for people with color blindness, for example. A professional DTP program can assist you in this regard.

This looks more like some advertisement. I wouldn't stop to read the title... I mean the findings ... which should be the title. figures need to be bigger, the poster legible for boomers from 3m away. White space is good, but this is wasteful.
-
It’s an advertisement for why you should read the poster. Did you watch the video?
-
So, in order to make the design work for me and people like me, we all have to watch the video first?
-
In order to understand the rationale behind a radical change in poster design, yes, you should watch the video first.
-
Well, nobody will see a poster like this and be like "wait, maybe I should understand the deeper meaning behind the design and conduct an internet research before I decide to skip it"
-
That’s why this thread is targeted toward poster designers and not being played at a poster session, right.
-
Oh, sorry, okay, so let's all academically philosophize theories of poster creation without taking into account the reality of conference visitors that are supposedly targeted with these posters. Got ya. Have a nice day with your arts project then.
-
My final words on this already idiotically long conversation. I watched the video, and it's all cute, etc. But the video, and your whole meh meh meh in response to my practical advise changes exactly zero about the fact that I won't stop looking at such a poster for a heart beat.

I thought QR codes were pretty much dead. I have seen them on a some posters, but I have never seen anyone scan a QR code at a conference.

How much of the literature on visual design went into this? A huge area delivering little value has low appeal to me. Big, concise title appeals

Thanks for sharing the templates, Mike. These are simple and effective! I watched your video and I think you are absolutely spot on with your observations.

Hi Mike, I'm a PhD researcher in IO and will use your template for my
#EAWOP poster this spring. I'm also interested in knowing more about the validation process you mentioned. Thanks for sharing! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

no, just no. We are scientists, not marketeers.

(and clinicians), but if we can't communicate ideas better, our craft and research is limited
