Labour spokesman: “We welcome the police investigating these individuals’ alleged crimes. “Antisemitism has no place in our society and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.”

Understood the three individuals are no longer members of the Labour Party after disciplinary action was taken against them. They were still members Labour members (or suspended - we just don’t know) when the Met’s Cressida Dick was handed the file by LBC back in September.

The arrests follow Met launching a criminal investigation into a number of individuals, who at the time were Labour Party members. Their names - and the allegations - were detailed in an internal party document handed to a sub committee of the NEC back in July.

We had the document analysed by Mak Chishty, who ran the Met’s hate crime unit before he retired. He found 17 cases should be recorded as hate crime incidents and four crossed the threshold for criminal investigation.
@NickFerrariLBC then passed the dossier to Cressida Dick.Show this thread -
Cressida Dick asked specialist officers to review the document. In November, following that review, the Met launched a criminal investigation. The three arrests announced today are a result of that. Investigations are on-going.

It would in all likelihood be a joint decision between the Met and the CPS as to whether to bring criminal charges.

Theo, who gave these Complaints to the Police? Was it Labour themselves?
-
It was LBC. I think the dossier was leaked.
-
Well, that's a cause for an enquiry in itself. Perhaps the
@EHRC can have it form part of their investigation? End of conversation

Shameful to see criticism of Israel equated to antisemitism. Such a statement implies all Jewish people support every policy of the occupying government in Palestine, and that kind of philosemitic antisemitism has no place in this country.https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2011/feb/16/antisemitism-philosemitism …
-
who exactly is equating criticism of israel is equated to antisemitism ? it's certainly not the wide held majority view within the community... IHRA; "however, criticism of Israel similar to that levelled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic"
-
Can you quote the portion of the IHRA definition before the word "however"?
-
i see, youre one of those that deny israels right to exist aren't you ? its ok, if thats what you believe, just type it in a tweet... i can't think any lower of you than i already do.
-
Honestly, saying Israel doesn't have the right to exist should be a valid opinion - as long as the person holding it also believes that the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, etc etc etc *also* do not have the right to exist.
-
I somehow doubt you're going to find many of them saying that, though. Wonder what it could be that makes them feel Israel is unique in this regard? It's a mystery.

a mystery indeed.pic.twitter.com/fsw9qL62lf
