If this is in reference to Eddie Dempsey, it misses the point. The problem is not that he criticized the liberal left, but that he did so drawing on far-right rhetoric about Soros money.
AEIP are in part funded by Soros (according to the Guardian). That’s relevant if your critique of a movement is it’s backed by finance capital. That said I think Eddie right to apologise for poor phrasing, and should be careful with critiques adjacent to far right tropes.

Again I don’t understand this “tropes” argument. If Soros is a funder, then he’s a funder. It’s like constantly caveating a reference to Salman Abedi by saying “btw, most terrorist attacks in the UK aren’t by Muslims.” Yeah I know that, just as I know most Jews aren’t financiers!

So no need to be afraid of your own shadow on this issue Michael. But even if you are, I think commending unnecessary apologies like this only serves to obscure the debate and frighten people away from making pertinent (and entirely inoffensive) comments.
